GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.

This internship is with one of the subgroups within the IT Department located in downtown Lakeland, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 29 hours a week. This internship begins in early January.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Public Safety

  • Assist Public Safety IT team with miscellaneous software

  • Assist Public Safety IT team with specialized hardware tasks

Application Development

  • Assist in configuration and support of enterprise applications.

Security

  • Review security logs and remediate vulnerabilities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

Enrollment as a Senior in an accredited college or university in a major relating to Computer Science or Information Technology

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Basic computer hardware knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic applications and software development principles

  • Skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites

  • Ability to promptly and effectively complete tasks

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees and the general public

  • Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

  • Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations

  • The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards

  • The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
