Warn Industries Quality Inspector Lead in Lancaster, South Carolina

Position Summary:

Working independently and collaboratively with others, this position plays an integral role in executing our mission, philosophy, and commitment to providing high quality products and exceptional customer service to our internal and external customers. In addition to maintaining a high level of trust, integrity and ethical standards, all employees are also expected to promote a culture of safety by following all safety procedures, protocols and guidelines while working in a manner that minimizes the risk of damage to property and injury to the employee and others.

Under general supervision, facilitates quality verification of products and processing of non-conforming material. Assists and provides guidance to cross functional teams for First article inspection, Capability studies, Measurements R&R studies and NCM forms. Documents and tracks progress of internal and external non-conformance and quality reporting. Assists with training new Quality Inspectors, and upon approval from the Supervisor, delegating inspectors to flex throughout the production floor.

Essential Functions as Quality Inspector Lead:

  • Ensure smooth workflow and production processes, optimizing efficiency and minimizing downtime.

  • Monitor product quality and implement measures to maintain or improve quality standards.

  • Enforce safety regulations and ensure that all workers follow safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Foster a positive work environment and motivate team members.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance overall production efficiency.

  • Ensure daily production is completed in most efficient way possible.

  • Ensure quality product is being produced at all times.

  • Responsible for maintaining quality product before being put in the line.

  • Responsible for overseeing / coordinating new hire training.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits.

  • Performs or coordinates inspection of received products per Quality Plan. This includes the verification of high-risk material from new suppliers, Engineering Change rework, or material with a history of poor performance on the factory floor.

  • Verifies and supports dispositions of nonconforming materials whether internal or customer returns. This includes ensuring the integrity of the quality data input in the Nonconforming Material Report database. Interface with internal and external personnel may be required in the performance of these activities.

  • Collects quality data. Enters and manipulates data using PC based spreadsheets and databases.

  • Participates in problem solving activities using data analysis and SPC techniques, as well as effective cross-functional problem-solving skills.

  • Provides basic training on quality related topics and inspection/verification techniques to machine operators.

  • Must be technically competent to perform the following inspection procedures: Uses hand gauging techniques for mechanical verification of dimensions, and other features of parts & material, visually inspects material using standard industry techniques.

  • Determines the correct choice of verification techniques and equipment for the task in question.

  • Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.

  • Collaborate with Warn leadership and team members during team meetings, system reviews, safety meetings, and other forms of problem-solving discussions to further define and improve department strategies designed to meet and exceed quality objectives. Participate meaningfully in Warn safety and quality activities as directed or requested.

  • Serve as a role model demonstrating responsible and efficient time management, commitment to exceeding quality and productivity expectations, professional and respectful communication, and safe work habits.

  • Communicate in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner with all employees, customers, vendors, visitors and others with whom we may work or interact. Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Blueprint and gauge reading experience required.

  • Prefer previous production experience in a manufacturing or machining environment.

  • May be continuously standing, repetitively grasping and repetitively using fine manipulation with the hands.

  • May be frequently required to walk, bend, squat or twist as well as repetitively push or pull.

  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify weld defects and discontinuities.

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Availability Requirements:

Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions of this position, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site.

Approximately 40 hours / week may be required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position, including presence at designated internal and external meetings. This position may also require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the early mornings, evenings and/or during weekends. Overtime may be scheduled and required to meet departmental needs.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills commensurate with the job tasks and position necessary to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers while providing exceptional quality of work and outstanding customer service. Ability to present information in a manner designed to educate or inform other team members and customers in one-on-one or group interactions as directed.

  • Ability to review, comprehend, interpret, process and evaluate written work instructions, documents and procedures written in English. Ability to utilize prints, specs and diagrams, and tool gauges, measuring devices and inspection tools in conjunction with the performance of the essential functions and other assigned job duties. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of measurement methods, with ability to facilitate cross-functional activities.

  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills including ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a calm, rational and respectful demeanor and communication style in times of stress occasioned by work demands, tight timelines, heavy production expectations, unexpected quality control issues, and other work-related issues or concerns that may cause a heightened level of anxiety, frustration, anger, disappointment, confusion, etc.

  • Lift, transport and/or move 35 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance, in the performance of regular duties as outlined above. May required occasional lifting overhead. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and descending a stepladder may also be required.

Environment/Atmospheric Conditions:

The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position’s job duties are performed both in a shop/ warehouse type environment and in an office environment. Team members in this position may be exposed to loud noises from operating machinery, cold/hot temperatures, chemicals and vapors, and possibly injury associated with work involving manufactured parts, assembly and heavy machinery. Office environment exposure may include traditional office lighting and office furniture, as well as consistent and frequent noise, interruptions and other similar distractions.

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software:

Personal computer, fax machine, copy machine, other office equipment, Microsoft Office, inspection equipment and tools. May minimally operate shop equipment such as assembly presses, manual and CNC machines, basic hand tools.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, write, verbalize and comprehend instructions and correspondence at the highest levels in the English language. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients, and other team members. Advanced conflict resolution skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.

Mathematical Skills:

Must have mathematical skills equivalent to those required under degree requirements. Higher skills may be required depending on actual job duties.

Physical and Visual Activities:

Standing, Walking, Sitting, Lifting, Carrying, Balancing, Stooping, Reaching, Handling, Feeling, Acuity-Far, Acuity-Near, Depth Perception, and Field of Vision.

Physical Demands:

May require a combination of sitting, standing, and walking. May require lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance.
