About this Position:

The Animal Industry Division (AID) of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is committed to protect, regulate, and promote animal health. In doing so public health, animal health and well-being and animal industries are safeguarded through collaborative efforts and implementation of effective programs. The function of the division is to administer programs to protect the health and safety of livestock and domestic animals in Michigan. These programs also protect food safety, public health, and the economic viability of animal industries. The employee functions as a first-line professional manager of professional positions in a complex work area receiving Division, Bureau, and Department executive direction. Duties include:

• As an Assistant State Veterinarian and the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Program Coordinator, this position carries out functions under the Division Director that include leadership and performance of administrative functions; coordination of staff to implement and manage program objectives and initiatives; and, public and industry commitments.

• Contributes to the development and enforcement of laws, policy, and supervises activities that pertain to the health and welfare of animals in Michigan.

• The position is an integral member of the division’s Leadership Team, working cooperatively with the Division/Bureau Directors, the Department Executive Office, Legislature and key stakeholder agencies to accomplish department goals and objectives and enhance program services

The official work location for this position is Constitution Hall in Lansing, MI. This position may offer some agreed upon remote work arrangement.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.

Experience

Three years of professional experience equivalent to a Veterinarian 12, two years equivalent to a Veterinarian Manager 13 or Veterinary Specialist 13, or one year equivalent to a Veterinarian Manager 14 or Veterinary Specialist 14.
