Peckham, Inc - Payroll Manager

SUMMARY

The Payroll Manager is responsible for oversight of the payroll function for Peckham, Inc. and related entities, including the supervision of internal payroll personnel and relationship management with the external payroll processor.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and manage the payroll team, while meeting payroll deadlines and maintaining compliance with applicable laws.

  • Process biweekly payroll for a subset of employees.

  • Provide payroll processing backup for the payroll team.

  • Manage the relationship with the external payroll processor and the internal timekeeping system administrator.

  • In conjunction with the external payroll processor, ensure timely filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.

  • In conjunction with the external payroll processor, manage handling of all payroll deductions, including Friend of the Court, garnishments, benefits, etc., meeting all deadlines.

  • Monitor payroll-related regulatory changes and ensure organizational compliance.

  • Establish and maintain internal controls, in accordance with departmental and organizational guidelines.

  • Adhere to all company internal control policies and procedures, including the appropriate handling of confidential and Privacy Act-protected information.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

  • Promote Peckham’s vision values and services to all customers and stakeholders.

  • Assist in maintaining organizational wide quality standards.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position directly supervises the Payroll Team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years’ work experience in Payroll, Accounts Payable (A/P), Accounts Receivable (A/R) or other accounting functions.

  • Familiarity with automated accounting software packages.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Must be able to create and maintain spreadsheets, charts, tables and graphs to illustrate financial activity, results and comparisons. Ideally, have experience with Pivot Tables and V-Look Up.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Possess and practice critical thinking skills; use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Ability to work independently and seek guidance as needed.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with accuracy and meet competing deadlines.

  • Commitment to working in a team environment with people with diverse backgrounds and skillsets.

  • Ability to provide information and reports to management in an accurate, timely, and professional manner.

  • Attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with accrual accounting and General Ledger (G/L) entries.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business.
