MIT Lincoln Laboratory Business Systems Analyst - DEC in Lexington, Massachusetts

The Engineering Division works in partnership with all the other Laboratory technical divisions to design and build advanced technology systems of national importance. The Division’s expertise includes mechanical, materials, aero, thermal, optical, control, and fabrication engineering plus energy and autonomous systems. Supporting the engineering efforts are a wide range of specialized laboratories, electronics and mechanical fabrication capabilities, plus integration and environmental test facilities. Special emphasis is placed on the integration of design and analysis capabilities to support the rapid prototyping of hardware systems.

Position Description

The Systems Analyst researches, documents, designs, configures, and/or modifies system processes, requirements, design and testing and/or application systems or reports. Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. Evaluates interfaces between hardware and software, operational requirements, and characteristics of the overall system. Prepares concepts for information system solutions and may evaluate the cost-effectiveness of these concepts. Documents and supports testing and maintenance of system corrections.

Primary Duties

  • Problem definition, evaluation of requirements and implementation of solutions to meet research and user requirements within the MIT LL Engineering division

  • Collaborate and engage with users, partners and other stakeholders to define requirements and translate business requirements into designs and test cases for information technology projects

  • Revise existing systems and tests functionality to correct deficiencies and maintain more effective data handling, data integrity, conversion, input/output requirements, and storage

  • Develops, documents and communicates specifications and configures systems solutions that address business or functional requirements, implements processes that fit with the organization’s system architecture standards

  • Supports system upgrades and performs troubleshooting to identify impacts to end user processes and any required mitigations resulting from the upgrades

Duties Cont.

  • Maintains high level of proficiency and current knowledge of assigned applications from master data, transaction data thru analytics and planning.

  • Maintains a detailed knowledge of support required by users for a primary functional area and provides second tier support for other functional business areas.

  • Supports testing of functionality, changes and enhancements to ensure they meet requirements

  • Resolve performance and availability issues in the existing system implementation and debug issues and develop fixes to prevent recurrence

  • Take part in major upgrade activities including regression testing and mitigation

  • Stay abreast of and share system best practices and feature enhancements to promote continuous improvement

Communication, Collaboration, Training

  • May act as a liaison with other subject matter experts and users of the systems

  • Document and communicates ongoing work and design changes to IT and research

  • Collaborates across teams to ensure standard system functionality is identified and used in all relevant situations

  • Develops, publishes, and maintains documentation according to department standards

  • Develops and delivers training on applications capabilities to increase user acceptance

Planning

  • Performs a variety of complicated tasks and may direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

  • Involved in planning of system and development, testing, deployment

  • Identifies and proposes both business process and system design related reengineering and streamlining opportunities for implementation

  • Ensures business requirements are met by monitoring available metrics and collecting feedback

  • Acts as the stakeholder’s advocate to IT in order to ensure that problems are resolved effectively and expeditiously

Qualifications - Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Analytics, IT Business Systems Mgmt, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience

  • 6+ years of experience with Systems Analysis

  • Effective communication, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Must have a working knowledge of relational databases and client-server concepts

  • Working knowledge of ERP, PLM and enterprise systems

  • Working knowledge of the software lifecycle and methodologies

  • Ability to work independently toward delivery of milestones as well as collaborate in team efforts

  • Ability to work analytically in a problem-solving environment

  • Skill in analyzing process and data flows

  • Skill in requirements collection and analysis to identify needs

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Business Analytics, IT Business Systems Mgmt, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience

  • Proven PLM experience in requirements gathering, deployment and support

  • Proven SAP experience in requirements gathering, deployment and support

  • Aras Innovator experience

  • Experience with developing software-based solutions in SQVI and or ABAP

  • Experience with reports development

  • Direct experience in an implementation and operational support

  • Solid understanding of programming concepts with multiple programming environments and languages

  • Project management and collaboration skills to succeed in matrixed environment

  • Working with change management tools for software life cycle development

  • Experience with XML and SQL
