GENERAL DYNAMICS LAND SYSTEMS INC Vehicle Test Inspector in Lima, Ohio

This UAW-represented position includes: - Drive military vehicles (i.e. Abrams Tanks) over a special course for specified distance in each gear. Check for braking and turning, oil pressure, noisy gears, and such other operating qualities as may be observed while test driving. - Perform final functional inspection testing of the major units of guidance and control, telemetering, testing, and measuring instrumentation. - Work from blueprints, schematic drawings, running lists, and other specifications, as required, using all types of electrical, electromechanical and electronic testing devices such as frequency counters, oscilloscopes, radiofrequency watt meters, etc., in order to make specific determinations as to the causes for malfunction of any major unit of instrumentation. - Keep records of tests and compile data as required. - Drive military vehicles (i.e. Abrams Tanks) off line, to or from storage or loading areas. - May fog out motor in preparation for shipping after delivery to loading location. - Clean up his/her immediate work area. Under exceptional circumstances, may be assigned to perform general cleaning in the department area. This classification does not include general routine department cleaning. - Pre and/or post operation and safety checks of equipment. - May be required to verify that he has followed his written instructions. These instructions may include the appropriate operation sheets or quality assurance directives. - Perform administrative tasks relating to the classification. - Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (International Trafficking and Arms Regulations). - Must successfully complete vetting process administered by Department of Army Police for unescorted facility access. - Must be at least 18 years of age and have high school diploma or equivalent (GED). - Must successfully complete pre-employment process including but may not be limited to background check, medical exam, and drug screen. - Must be able to obtain/maintain valid state-issued driver's license. - Must be able to obtain/maintain in-plant driver's license to operate military vehicles. - Must satisfy skills test - including vision, audio, physical, and may include respirator clearance. - Must obtain/sustain Anthropometric Size Requirements (ASR) certifications for vehicle entry. - Read blueprints and related documents for installation of parts and/or sub-assemblies including but not limited to rails and doors. - Must be able to read blueprints and related documents. - Administrative tasks relating to the classification. - Read and understand operation sheets. - Understand and follow quality assurance directives. - Understand and follow pre- and/or post-operation safety checks of equipment. - This position includes working in small and confined areas inside of military vehicles. - This position includes utilizing military vehicle scopes and periscopes which may cause the field of vision to be limited and may further enhance the feeling of enclosure inside a military vehicle. Working Conditions & Environment Ability to work in production environment, including: - Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and handling various parts up to 40 lbs. - Climbing ladders and stairs into and onto vehicle structures. - Potential for walking and standing on uneven surfaces. - Potential for working in both overhead and laying prown positions. - Working at heights and in confined areas. - Bending, kneeling, standing, stooping, twisting. - Working in and around dust, fumes, oils, mists, lubricants, solvents and in areas with a high noise volume. - Using hand tools including, but not limited to pry bar, large hand wrenches, ratchet wrenches, impact wrenches, air/gas couplings, tap handles, air too
