Navistar, Inc. Category Manager - Aftertreatment & Exhaust in Lisle, Illinois

Position Overview

Navistar’s Procurement Team has an immediate need for a Category Manager - Aftertreatment & Exhaust.The Category Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the category team and engineering on new product development programs.

Responsibilities

  • Understand RFI, RFQ and RFP processes and support as required

  • Work collaboratively with the TRATON cross brands

  • Lead cross functional team meetings (CMT – Category Management Team) of sourcing engineering, specialists, advanced sourcing managers, supply chain, finance, program managers, etc. to implement strategic initiatives

  • Identify and develop new cost reduction opportunities using variety of procurement levers including competitive bidding, global sourcing, negotiation, technology, supply chain/footprint optimization, target costing, aftermarket service parts, etc.

  • Analyze quotes, negotiate, and nominate suppliers for new product launches, resourcing actions, and market tests

  • Analyze market conditions and global environment to understand supply base and strategic moves

  • Ability to read and understand 2D drawings and product specifications

  • Develop sourcing strategies to align with CMT and broader procurement objectives

  • Work with advanced sourcing manager to plan sourcing for new product launches during program charter

  • Build strong strategic partnerships with suppliers to ensure that product quality, on time delivery and service levels are met

  • Build and manage relationships with cross functional team members and management

  • Facilitate communications between external suppliers and various internal departments to resolve queries or issues

  • Manage tight deadlines in a high volume, fast paced environment

  • Negotiate all aspects of cost: piece price, tooling, packaging etc., to understand TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and ensure best cost to Navistar

  • Drive purchasing initiatives that ensure parts are sourced and on contract within the specified time

  • Anticipate potential problems, be proactive and manage changes to ensure projects are on time and within budget

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • At least 8 years of purchasing/procurement experience

  • At least 1 year of lead experience

OR

  • Master’s degree

  • At least 6 years of purchasing/procurement experience

  • At least 1 year of lead experience

OR

  • At least 10 years of purchasing/procurement experience

  • At least 1 year of lead experience

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Experience with procurement systems (Ivalua, Salesforce, PeopleSoft, Power BI)

  • Prefer experience or strong understanding of powertrain (aftertreatment) and exhaust systems

  • Intermediate level in Excel, PowerPoint, Word

  • Knowledge of Manufacturing processes

  • Understanding and Use of cost savings initiatives (VA/VE, Value Stream, Value Chain, etc.)

  • Understanding of Finance within Procurement

  • Ability to develop Negotiation strategies and tracking documentation

  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams

  • Strong Negotiation, Presentation, and Organizational Skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
