Job Title: MS/HS FCS Teacher

Reports to: MS/HS Principal

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates and teaches Family and Consumer Sciences in a classroom setting using hands-on activities, career experiences and standards-aligned instruction.
2. Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in Family and Consumer Sciences activities and modifies instructional methods to fit student's individual needs.
3. Continues to participate in professional development to stay knowledgeable of current developments in the Family and Consumer Sciences field. This includes, but is not limited to, attending seminars, workshops, and/or participating in professional learning communities (PLC).
4. Prepares instructional materials aligned with curriculum standards, maintains equipment, supplies, and other resources and maintains inventory records in accordance with district policies and procedures.
5. Coordinate CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national competition
6. Communicate and maintain clear standards of student behavior to provide a safe and productive learning environment.
7. Assess students' academic growth and maintain required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records, including updating the online gradebook in a timely manner.
8. Administer standardized tests in accordance with the district and state laws and policies.
9. Implement IEP and 504 Plans with fidelity to meet the needs of students.
10. Discuss academic difficulties with students, parents, and appropriate staff members as they arise.

Applicants shall meet one of the following qualifications:

• Iowa Teaching License (5-12 Family and Consumer Sciences - General - 139);
• 6,000 hours of recent and relevant experience;
• 4,000 hours of recent and relevant experience if the applicant holds a baccalaureate degree;
• 3,000 hours of recent and relevant experience, if the applicant holds an associate's degree in the teaching endorsement area, sought, if such a degree is considered terminal for that field of instruction;
• Hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree or closely related degree in the teaching endorsement area sought; or
• Hold a baccalaureate degree in any area of study if at least 18 of the credit hours were completed in the teaching endorsement area sought.
