This position will be filled at either the Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional 2 or the Industrial Hygiene & Safety Professional 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health and Quality, (ALDESHQ) has a need for an Industrial Hygiene and Safety (IH&S) Professional supporting LANL programs and projects at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) through the LANL Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division. Reporting to the OSH-ISH Industrial Hygiene Team Lead the IH&S Professional will be responsible for serving as subject matter expert for multiple industrial hygiene (IH) programs such as silica, toxic metals, lead, asbestos, cyrogens, beryllium, chemical safety, nano, etc. Responsibilities will include reviewing IH program documentation, ensuring the program(s) meets DOE and OSHA requirements, providing guidance and interpretations to program customers. In addition, the IH&S professional will complete walkdowns as needed, and seek collaboration with program customers on program changes and management. The IH&S Professional will promote safety, security, and quality in all work activities; exercise prudent fiscal and property management; promote teamwork within the OSH organization and across the Laboratory; promote a positive work environment; and deliver exceptional customer service. IH&S Professional 2 ($83,900 - $136,600)

An IH&S Professional 2 works under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. They demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. They determine an approach to solutions, plans, schedules and arranges their own activities in accomplishing objectives.

The successful candidate will:

• Use professional IH concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve issues in creative and effective ways.

• Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

IH&S Professional 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)

An IH&S Professional 3 works under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. They demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. They determine an approach to solutions, plans, schedules and arranges their own activities in accomplishing objectives.

In addition to the duties outlined above, the IH&S Professional 3 will be required to:

• Use professional IH concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex analysis of work activities and data.

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Working knowledge of and experience in implementing industrial hygiene related risk assessments and corrective actions.

• Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards and regulations in several IH program areas including chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment, confined space and other IH rubrics.

• Working knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessments (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling techniques/instrumentation, analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.

• Moderate experience and skill in the preparation and communication of industrial hygiene technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.

• Working knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.

• Possessing excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.

• Proficiency in interfacing with database management systems.

• Superior interpersonal skills as demonstrated by successfully working with a wide variety of customers and team members.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" level clearance.

Additional Job Requirements for higher level title:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

• Extensive experience in implementing industrial hygiene related risk assessments and corrective actions.

• Extensive experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards and regulations in several IH program areas including: asbestos, beryllium, chemical safety, confined spaces, exposure assessment, medical surveillance, and other IH rubrics.

• Advanced knowledge and application of techniques and procedures for industrial hygiene exposure assessments (both qualitative and quantitative), to include sampling techniques/instrumentation, analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.

• Working knowledge and extensive experience and skill in the preparation and communication of industrial hygiene technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.

• Advanced knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's in Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety, and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of and experience implementing exposure assessment programs.

• Broad knowledge of Laboratory organizations, operations/activities and data collection tools.

• Knowledge of DOE and regulatory requirements related to industrial hygiene in a research environment.

• Robust knowledge and application of Integrated Safety Management (ISM), Human Performance Improvement (HPI) and other effective safety concepts.

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.

• Familiarity with OSH data collection tools and databases.

• Active DOE Clearance.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: Weekly work schedule will be 9/80, Monday through Thursday 9 hour days, 80 hours total every two weeks, every other Friday off, and 8 hours on your work Friday.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
