Para Los Ninos Director of Marketing and Communications in Los Angeles, California

Position Overview

Para Los Nios (PLN) is seeking a creative, strategic, and results-driven professional who is passionate about communicating the unique work of Para Los Nios to internal and external audiences. This role will work with a dynamic and fun External Affairs team to help meet their fundraising goals. The key priorities for this role are to develop and execute on an internal and external strategic communications plan for Para Los Nios, our schools and our work supporting children, youth, and their families, manage the brand identity of PLN, and support on all key fundraising activities including leading the Para Los Ninos Annual Benefit Dinner. With the support of one staff member, the Director of Marketing and Communications must have a vision for how the communications will then lead the execution of the communications plan, working as an individual contributor to create content and oversee the art direction of the plan for one of Los Angeles premier non-profits.

Duties

Internal and External Communications

  • Establish vision and goals for communications and marketing strategy and oversee development of key messages to inform fundraising appeals (mail, email, and online), public relations, social media, website, and other communications that will engage and retain external partners.
  • Directly execute and/or oversee the development of compelling content such as our annual report, donor communication, press-releases, website content, videos, social media content and more.
  • Support on communications for board meetings and other external events, including staff presentations.
  • Drive social media engagement on a strategic and daily basis.
  • Establish and manage workflow for creating, editing, publishing, and re-purposing content?developed internally.
  • Edit and proof a variety of materials as required, ensure consistency of message, look, and feel of all communications.
  • Serve as the organizations webmaster and update the look and brand of the PLN website as needed;
  • Stay up-to-date on the best content marketing and communications trends to ensure PLN is seen as a leader in Los Angeles.

Brand Management and Oversight

  • Manage the Brand Identity of PLN.
  • Collaborate with facility team on signage and branding.

Event Leadership

  • Manage the design and production of the annual benefit dinner including theme, invitation design, program design, and working with all vendors from inception to completion;
  • Support on a variety of other events throughout the year to ensure that they align with organizational goals.

Cross Functional Development Partnership

  • Collaborate with the Development and External Affairs team to create compelling fundraising materials and collateral.
  • Collaborate with PLN program teams to ensure their communications and marketing needs are being met.
  • In partnership with the Managing Director, External Affairs, develop creative strategies to expand donor pool and strengthen donor retention.

Media and External Relations

  • Work with media representatives and reporters to share stories about our work and/or identify and support the right representative to speak to the media.
  • Work with internal staff to design and implement outreach strategies around core issues, focused on media, external stakeholders, and policymakers.
  • Perform other projects and duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Excellent writing and editing skills are a must.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, including ability to accurately gauge project duration, deliver on deadlines and manage a workload with possible conflicting priorities.?
  • Strong knowledge of marketing strategy and best practices.
  • An eye for good design.?
  • Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.?
  • Ability to thrive in a demanding environment, requiring high degree o deadline-driven productivity, commitment, adaptability, communication, initiative and follow-through.
  • Capacity to bridge communication, roles and responsibilities among funders, community leaders and PLN.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Bi-lingual English /Spanish preferred.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelors degree preferably in marketing or communications and 5 - 8 years related experience with a minimum 3 years demonstrated success in leading related initiatives from concept to completion.

Other Requirements

  • Travel Requirements: Up to 50% (within Los Angeles County).
  • TB test clearance to be renewed every two years.
  • Verification of Immunizations required by the California Department of Health (Pertussis, Measles and Influenza).
  • DOJ clearance and all other required background checks.
  • Understanding of and ability to use technology such as data systems, pay roll systems, and other agency required programs.
