    Position description

The Department of Biological Chemistry/DGSOM is recruiting for a Project Scientist position in Dr. S. Lawrence Zipursky’s laboratory.

A Project Scientist position is available for motivated individuals within Dr. S. Lawrence Zipursky’s laboratory at UCLA's Department of Biological Chemistry. In this lab, we conduct research on the molecular mechanisms by which different neurotransmitter receptors and proteins associated with them are localized to different spatial domains within dendrites and the role this localization plays in directing the specificity of presynaptic inputs. This position requires in depth experience in molecular biology, Drosophila genetics, biochemistry, immunohistology, and imaging using both light sheet microscopy with expanded tissue and confocal microscopy. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D., at least four years of postdoctoral experience and evidence of creativity and accomplishment.

The successful applicant will participate in the planning of grant goals, gathering pilot data for such proposals, and writing grant proposals and progress reports for federal agencies. It is also expected that the candidate will seek funding to establish their independence. The successful applicant will also be responsible for the day-to-day operations of their research and to provide other lab members with guidance when asked and to supervise lab helpers and work study students. A major responsibility is to prepare completed research for publications in peer reviewed journals and to complete revisions necessary in the review process.

This General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Statement for Persons in the European Economic Area is designed to provide information regarding the types of Personal Information that the University of California's Human Resources departments and offices collects.

Please be advised that the final candidate recommended for hire into a critical (or otherwise designated) position will be required to successfully complete a background investigation. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
