Charles Schwab User Experience and Design is responsible for software design across mobile, web and desktop platforms. We are a multi-disciplinary group of user experience designers, visual designers, content writers and researchers. We work with strategic business and technology partners across the enterprise to build best-in-class software experiences for our users.

We are looking for a Sr. UX Designer to join our Everest Design System team.

Schwab’s Everest Design System is a unified, cross-platform system composed of an UI toolkit for designers and a shared code base for developers. Our principles are based on scalability and reusability, to help build consistency in our digital products, increase efficiency for our teams, strengthen our Schwab brand, and simplify the online experience.

The Everest Design System UX team is responsible for

Design Consulting

  • Create design solutions with a multi-faceted team, taking into account how digital, physical, and service channels work together.

  • Facilitate collaborative design sessions with other designers and partners including sketching and ideation.

  • Be an advocate for the design system and help educate others outside the design system team on how to best use the system with their work.

  • Work with teams across Schwab to define and grow the iconography and illustration library, including the Everest Design System and Schwab Brand.

  • Participate in design reviews to share work and help drive decisions.

  • Represent the design team brand and deliver a consistent design process to partners.

  • Understand great designs are achieved iteratively.

  • Visualize ideas in a clear form (sketch, diagram, wireframe, or prototype) and provide appropriate level documentation.

Design Expertise and Execution

  • Maintain the high standards set by the group.

  • Think systematically, especially as it applies to design systems.

  • Work to grow and mature the design system.

  • Highly skilled in icon and illustration design to create and manage icons and their libraries as they relate to the design system and Schwab’s brand at large.

  • Conduct the primary design activities, create deliverables and conduct QA at an expert level.

  • Participate and support research efforts.

  • Commit to improving our process and methods with an emphasis on both effectiveness and efficiency.

What you have

Required:

  • A minumum of 18 months of schwab technology domain experience gained as a current contractor is a must have

  • 6+ years of rich interaction design focused on digital products.

  • 2+ years of interaction design experience for touch-based mobile interfaces.

  • An online portfolio demonstrating interaction design process and thinking, including artifacts and examples of how you arrived at the final design.

  • Experience with all aspects of a user-centered interaction design process, including user research and testing, developing user flows, creating wireframes, creating prototypes, and creating annotated design specifications.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with and knowledge of design systems and the role they play within an organization.

  • Ability to define and create foundational elements, components, patterns, and templates for the design system and its libraries.

  • Strong icon and illustration design skills, and ability to create and manage icons and their libraries within the design system and Schwab’s brand at large.

  • Ability to work with teams outside of the design system to educate them on the design system to help them adopt and best use the system with their work.

  • Experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team within an iterative process and an Agile development methodology.

  • Detail-focused, organized, and able to attend to a variety of tasks throughout the day.

  • Strong self-management skills, ability to manage substantial responsibility, capable of managing your project schedules, and an ability to collaborate across levels and roles.

  • Proficient in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, MURAL, etc. Able to use these tools for design concepts, imagery and iconography, and creation / maintenance of components, patterns, and templates within the design system library.

  • Experience working in an Agile scrum environment.

  • Experience running design sessions with cross-functional teams.

  • Effective relationship builder--ability to partner cross-functionally, cross-enterprise and work effectively with various levels of the organization as well as various personality types.

  • Comfort in a project-oriented work environment, with a positive attitude and solid work ethic.
