Position Description:

Performs specialized Post Doctoral work in the planning, conducting and/or supervision of original research. Responsible for participating in a research project associated with PhD studies and the interpretation of the results of publication. Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Work is performed under supervision of graduate faculty members with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

This postdoctoral associate will advance knowledge about desalination of produced water for water and resource recovery. The major goal is to design a cascade filtration and separation process to treat and desalinate hypersaline brine stream. It is also expected to recover highly valuable critical minerals from brine concentration using advanced functional materials. Expertise in membrane separation, membrane synthesis, design of electroconductive membranes, water treatment and desalination, and piloting separation processes is a significant plus.

Major/Essential Functions:

Malmali Research Group in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas Tech University is seeking a motivated and independent postdoc to work on a project funded by the US Department of Energy, Fossil Energy and Carbon Management. The project is in collaboration with multiple groups and various partners. Hence, the ability to work in a collaborative environment is required.

The successful candidate is expected to actively discuss research progress with the PI, attend conferences to present his/her research, publish high-quality results, and participate in securing grants. Other responsibilities may include mentoring new graduate students, assisting with graduate students’ manuscripts, and leading a small group of graduate and undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in areas of project specialization (membranes, membrane-based separations, water treatment, desalination, produced water handling and treatment, electroconductive membranes, piloting membrane processes, and materials synthesis characterization). Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions and other outcomes. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to plan and allocate the workload of employees, providing direct training and supervision as needed.
