Eaton Corporation Engineering Electronics Degree Apprentice in Luton, United Kingdom

The Role

Eaton's Global Energy Infrastructure Solutions group has an opening for a Degree Apprentice within the Engineering Team.

The role will be based at the Luton site on a 37 hour per week contract with supported day release and study time. The role will provide experience in both electronics and mechanical disciplines to provide a solid foundation in the broader engineering team.

The successful candidate will undertake a fully funded 4-year Engineering Degree Apprenticeship via University of Hertfordshire.

What you will do

Eaton will provide a detailed training programme, focusing on the following elements:

  • Involvement in the definition of customer product requirements and the creation of corresponding system specifications

  • Generating design solutions for new industrial process control products

  • Preparation of concept designs, 2D technical drawings and 3D models using Solidworks CAD package

  • Preparation of electronics schematics and PCB layouts using the Altium package

  • Preparation of electronics and thermal simulations using the Ansys suite

  • Consideration of Design-for-Manufacture, Design-for-Test and Design-to-Cost

  • Consideration of certification requirements for our products

  • Create of Design-Verification-Test plans and the recording of results to demonstrate correctness of design satisfying customer requirements

  • Engagement in detailed planning of engineering activities in line with top level program plan and in accordance with Eaton gate review process

  • Preparing and reviewing technical documentation in accordance with company procedures.

  • Ensuring timely and consistent communication on progress, impacts and changes associated with the technical directions and status of the projects

  • Participating in product failure investigations

Qualifications:

  • Pass grade in GCSE’s (minimum of grade ‘4’ for Maths and English)

  • 3 A-Levels Grades (BBB–ABB) or Level 3 Apprenticeship OR Level 3 HL in Maths, and either Physics, Technology or Engineering based subjects.

The following qualities would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • Knowledge of a range of manufacturing processes e.g Machine, Treatments, Assembly & Test

  • Understanding of basic mechanical, electronic and electrical principles

  • Experience of Additive Manufacturing and CAD

  • Evidence of relevant projects undertaken as a hobby or during education

  • Awareness of new and emerging technologies and understanding the cost-benefit analysis of implementation
