Job Description:

POSITION: Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Philosophy with a focus in Mathematics Education

APPOINTMENT: August 15, 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will: (1) teach undergraduate and graduate students for mainly pre-service/in-service K-12 mathematics teachers; (2) conduct research/scholarly activities that lead to grants, presentations, and publications; (3) engage in service to the University and the community; (4) be willing to teach in the summer and to work with area teachers through additional educational experiences such as workshops and conferences.

This position requires teaching a variety of mathematics content and pedagogy courses for future and current K-12 teachers. Courses will include undergraduate and graduate level to be delivered in both face-to-face and online modalities.

RANK & SALARY: Assistant Professor, 9-month, full-time tenure track appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate in Mathematics Education or closely related field by appointment start date and a Master\'s degree in Mathematics or significant coursework in graduate level mathematics;
  • Strong potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service;
  • Evidence of the ability to teach a wide range of courses focused on mathematics and mathematics education;
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to teacher education and to quality teaching;
  • Oral proficiency in the English language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience at the K -12 level;
  • Experience with the implementation of innovative teaching practices, including using technology to enhance educational environments;
  • Evidence of research activities in the form of authored, peer-reviewed journal publications, professional conference presentations, or other scholarly activities.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Mathematics and Philosophy has 24 faculty, approximately 26 undergraduate majors, 104 minors, and 27 graduate students in Masters Programs (Mathematics and Teaching Mathematics). The department includes a Mathematics undergraduate major with four Options (Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Data Science and Statistics, Actuarial Science); as well as minors in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Middle Level Mathematics Teaching, and Philosophy.
