Bowery Residents Committee Director of Payroll - 131 West 25th Street in Manhattan, New York

JOB SUMMARY:

BRC is a leading provider of caring and effective services to New Yorkers experiencing homelessness. Currently serving over 8,000 people each year with a workforce of 1,500 plus employees. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director of Payroll will be responsible for the entire payroll process, including related accounting and auditing functions, and supervision of the Payroll Coordinator. To be successful in this role, you should have previous experience managing payroll for a large organization and have excellent attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and maintain functional payroll systems, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws.

  • Streamline and document procedures and ensure internal controls are adhered to.

  • Audit payroll transactions to ensure all amounts are accurate.

  • Manage payroll discrepancies quickly and efficiently.

  • Responsible for the analyses of all payroll and related liabilities to the general ledger.

  • Create and maintain reports for management as required.

  • Ensure appropriate cross training for adequate backup when necessary.

  • Other duties as needed.

    HOURS:

    Full-time 37.5 hours per week

  • Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree accounting, or related field.

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Director or Payroll manager.

  • In-depth knowledge of labor and tax regulations.

  • A high level of discretion and integrity handling sensitive employee information.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

*Vaccination preferred but not required.
