Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer with electrical engineering experience in RF & Digital Communications systems. This individual will have the opportunity to work on cutting edge and world-class Space Avionics systems. Sample products include, Mars Rover, Space Launch System Vehicle, and Imaging satellite communications equipment.

The Systems Engineer performs technical architecture, system integration, verification and validation, for RF & Digital Transmitters, Transceivers, and Transponders for both new products and internal research and design. Analyses are performed at all levels including: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into unit level RF Architectures that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware specifications. Recent experience with modulators, amplifiers, oscillators, filters, FPGAs, high frequency packaging and RF & digital test equipment is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Subject Matter Expert in RF & Digital Communications for Space Communication programs.

  • Lead RF & digital design team at the circuit level to ensure compliance to unit and system level requirements.

  • Lead technical planning, system integration, validation, and verification activities in support of programs and development efforts for the Space RF portfolio.

  • Complex Problem Solving — Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • Judgment and Decision Making — Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution.

  • Systems Analysis — Determine how an RF & digital system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes particularly in terms of spectral performance and data error rate performance.

  • Systems Evaluation — Identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance relative to the goals of the system.

  • Customer Interaction – Technical Point of Contact to our customers and our suppliers.

  • Demonstrated experience with designing, developing, testing, and delivering RF & digital circuits, electronic units, and have a comprehensive understanding of electronic components and methodology, and circuits.

  • Demonstrated experience in the architecture, specification, implementation, simulation, test, verification, validation, and debugging of digital based units, systems, avionics systems, and/or control systems.

  • Demonstrated experience with microwave circuit designs for high-bandwidth upconverters, mixers, drivers, and power amplifiers at UHF, S-, X-, and/or Ku-band ranges.

  • Demonstrated experience with modulators, amplifiers, oscillators, filters, FPGAs, high frequency packaging and RF test equipment

  • Demonstrated complex problem solving and decision making — Able to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions; able to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate solution

  • Demonstrated experience with System test and evaluation requirements development

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, Associate's Degree and minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience or a Graduate/Master's Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience required. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

  • 2 years of engineering experience working directly with RF and/or digital design.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with both internal & external stakeholders such as customers, vendors and leadership with minimal oversight.

  • Prior systems engineering experience on at least 3 programs, with at least one program being a medium scale complex system or subsystem (i.e., > 10 System Engineers and/or >$15M).

  • Knowledge of military and/or NASA component specifications, design processes, and hardware test/verification procedures.

  • Must be willing and able to obtain a government issued security clearance if needed in the future, for which one of the basic requirements is US citizenship.
