Job Description

We have an exciting role for a Senior Process Control Engineer (Electrical or Mechanical) / Senior Engineer I Nourish at the Protein Solutions site in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis Protein Solutions is part of the Nourish division of IFF. The Senior Process Control Engineer / Senior Engineer role acts as a technical resource to maintain and improve the site’s controls and electrical infrastructure, applying technical skills to optimize plant operations, resolve plant problems, and enable safe and efficient production of low-cost, quality products.

You will:

  • Understand all applicable electrical equipment and control technology and work closely with the Manufacturing / Technical resources, operators, and technicians.

  • Be responsible for the design, programming, and alteration of many types of PLCs, HMIs, PID loop controllers, VFDs, and other control devices.

  • Provide technical advice to plant personnel to support operations to meet Business and plant goals. (EH&S, Production, cost, quality, energy, reliability, sustainability).

  • Serve as the primary contact for area control systems, process data historians, and networks.

  • Use fundamental engineering principles and concepts to lead troubleshooting of plant electrical and controls issues, and coach others to learn these skills.

  • Identify, design, and implement process control improvements including migrations to newer platforms.

  • Support capital projects as required.

  • Participate in and lead teams in your area of accountability.

  • Participate in investigations of process control incidents and ensure follow-up actions are complete.

  • Network with other engineers on-site and globally with Subject Matter Experts within the business to leverage technical knowledge.

  • Implement best design practices to optimize operations and work to standardize process control logic and HMI interfaces across the facility.

  • Champion electrical safety within plant roles including electrical procedure usage, creation, reviews, updates, and approvals.

  • Be part of a team that provides support, as needed, to control systems across the site for 24/7 operation.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • 5 years of experience with process control systems (10+ years preferred).

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of instrumentation used in process control.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of control system architecture.

  • Demonstrated skills in configuring, documenting, and troubleshooting a variety of control systems.

  • Preferably have experience in a high hazard, food, and/or personal care manufacturing.

  • Ability to read and understand control system-related documentation such as P&IDs, logic drawings, electrical drawings, and vendors’ installation/user manuals.

  • Working knowledge of key Process Safety Management (PSM) technology elements such as Process Hazard Analyses, Process Technology, and Management of Change.

  • Experienced in developing and documenting detailed basic data to ensure the success of process improvements and capital projects.

  • Knowledge of Rockwell PLC systems is preferred.

  • Experience developing and implementing process control and HMI standards for existing plant processes and capital projects.

  • Well-versed in the rules and regulations relating to the implementation and best practices in electrical system design and implementation. NEC, UL, CSA, and TUV. NFPA 79 Specification, NFPA 70e Specification, ANSI and IEC Electrical symbols, Grounding and shielding of electrical systems.

  • Working knowledge of data analytics and statistics using tools like 6-Sigma, python, Power BI, Alteryx, or process industry-specific time-series analysis tools.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to work in both self-managed and team environments.
