Pay: $56,000 a year

The pay listed is the salary range for this position. Any specific offer will vary based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grounds Maintenance:

Oversee the day-to-day maintenance and care of the grounds, including landscaping, lawns, flower beds, trees, parking structures and outdoor common areas. Execute and improve maintenance plans, schedules, and procedures to ensure the grounds are healthy, safe and aesthetically pleasing. Knowledge of annual and perennial flower care, yearly flower bed design and procurement for multiple flower beds with aesthetically pleasing and wildlife resistant outcomes.

Staff Supervision:

Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to the grounds staff. Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training and coaching for all service types the staff provides. Foster a positive work environment and encourage teamwork and accountability.

Customer Service and Communication:

Collaborate with Corporate Facilities, corporate planners, outside vendors and other stakeholders to understand their grounds-related needs and priorities. Provide exceptional customer service, address concerns and requests, and communicate effectively about grounds maintenance activities.

Equipment and Supplies Management:

Coordinate with the Corporate Facilities Manager to ensure the availability and proper maintenance of groundskeeping equipment, tools, and supplies. Monitor inventory levels, procure and track parts and services, identify preventive practices, and make recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacements.

Turf and Tree Management:

Monitor, fertilize, repair and improve the health of the turf areas. This includes awareness of pre-emergent applications, fertilizing timing, additional weed controls and sod installation. Safe tree felling techniques and practices should be known, practiced and trained. Increasing tree knowledge and monitoring are required. Identifying aged/diseased trees and replacement with new trees annually.

Irrigation:

Decide the weekly irrigation schedule, monitor turf and flower health, schedule weekly irrigation maintenance and repair and lead the annual system blowout. The client’s irrigation systems needs all season repair and cleaning due to urban right of ways, underground infrastructure improvements and aging of the systems. There are 5 irrigation systems amongst the 4 irrigated properties. Weekly inspections of the turf health indicate irrigation problems and needed repairs.

Snow Removal:

Early morning snow removal is necessary. Monitoring of all ice control and public safety are a high priority for this client. Knowledge of snow equipment operation, snow removal techniques, snow management considering both in and out of season activities, and equipment maintenance are required. Managing staff snow removal skills, detailing snow control, weekly ice monitoring and insuring associates’ safety are paramount.

Safety and Compliance:

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in grounds maintenance. Identify potential safety hazards, practice and improve safety protocols, and provide staff training on safe work practices and the proper use of equipment and chemicals.

Record-Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of grounds maintenance activities, including work schedules, maintenance logs, inventory records, and project documentation.

Grounds Improvement Projects:

Plan, coordinate, and oversee grounds improvement projects, such as installing new landscaping features, improved winter ice control, irrigation system upgrades and repairs, water runoff and pond maintenance. Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and maximized benefit.

Budget Management:

Assist in the tracking of expenses, communicate with parts and service vendors to insure payments and pricing is the most advantageous. Identify cost-saving opportunities and balance safety needs with expenditures based on skills and resources of the team.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Additional education or certifications in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field is a plus.

Proven experience in grounds maintenance and supervision, preferably in a medium to larger corporate setting.

Strong leadership and team management skills, motivating and supervising staff effectively.

Knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, landscaping principles, arborist, and horticultural practices.

Understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to grounds maintenance.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.

Ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment and tools.
