Responsibilities The incumbent of this position serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator/Laborer assigned to the Grounds & Transportation Team of the Facility Management Division, at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Major Duties: -Performs Laborer related actives for the grounds unit including, but not limited to: cutting grass with gasoline powered push mowers, cutting grass with gasoline powered string trimmers, shoveling snow, removing snow with gasoline powered snow blower, clean outside areas with gasoline powered backpack blowers, garbage and trash pickup/removal, use gasoline powered pressure washer to clean inside of shelters, sidewalks, and Front-End Loaders, trucks, and other equipment. -Operates passenger vehicles, step vans, pickup trucks with power lift gates, flatbed trucks, snow plows and salter units with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 10,000 pounds or less to transport equipment, supplies, and employees on Milwaukee VA Medical Center Campus. -Performs pre-trip inspections and safety inspection form and trip documentation. *Work Schedule: Full time, Monday-Friday, 6 AM-2:30 PM, Incumbent is considered emergency essential and may be required to work outside of his/her normal duty hours. *The position is AWS eligible for 8 - 9 hr days, 1 - 8 hr day and one day off a pay period, the day off being a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. NOTE: The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license (DL) at all times. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/27/2024. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. For the Motor Vehicle Operator position, you must have previous experience and knowledge that includes, but is not limited to cutting grass with gasoline powered push mowers, cutting grass with gasoline powered string trimmers, shoveling snow, removing snow with gasoline powered snow blower, cleaning outside areas with gasoline powered backpack blowers, garbage and trash pickup/removal, using gasoline powered pressure washer to clean inside of smoke shelters, sidewalks, and Front-End Loaders, trucks, and other equipment; operating passenger vehicles, step vans, pickup trucks with power lift gates, flatbed trucks, snow plows and salter units with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 10,000 pounds or less to transport equipment, supplies, and employees. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Incumbent exerts a moderate physical effort in climbing into trucks and vans to load/unload or securing of cargo, and to make couplings between trailers and snow plow attachments to trucks. Incumbent exerts a moderate physical effort and may handle weight of over 50 pounds when loading/unloading of cargo, making coupling and uncoupling of trailers and plow attachments, shoveling snow or running snow blowers, cutting and trimming grass, running backpack blowers, and other assigned Laborer work. Working Conditions: Incumbent works mostly outside and operates in all kinds of traffic and weather. Incumbent may be exposed to dirt, dust, and fumes while driving, loading/unloading of vehicles and Grounds related work. Work is carried out on the Medical Center Campus in all types of traffic, at low speeds, in confined and congested areas, and in all types of weather.
