Position Purpose

The Senior Accountant will lead the accounting, reporting, and analysis supporting complex functions within Sleep Number's field operations. This position will work closely with other departments across the organization most notably Finance. The Senior Accountant leads periodic meetings with business partners on unique accounting matters. Additional responsibilities of the Senior Accountant include reserve accounting, daily and monthly accruals, accounting entries, reconciling of account balances, analysis, reporting, and other various responsibilities as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Reserve accounting including tracking and interpreting monthly reporting, understanding product trends and calculating monthly warranty claims and reserves

  • Full cycle month and quarter end general ledger accounting close processes and all activities and related entries to ensure balances are correct.

  • Additional responsibilities include analyizing & reconciling general ledger accounts, tracking capital authorizations and spending, and investigating and resolving issues in a timely fashion.

  • Apply generally accepted accounting principles to ensure financial statements are fairly stated.

  • Assist in preparation of schedules for external (SEC) and tax reporting, support internal and external audit process and compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.

  • Additional responsibilities include development and preparation of monthly analysis; support the accounts receivable, treasury , tax, and other departments as necessary.

  • The ability to independently manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work with multiple groups in a team environment, sound judgment and critical thinking as well as the ability to work well independently with less structured and more complex tasks is a must.

  • Provide support to other finance team members, leaders, and operational leadership .

  • Take on special projects as assigned, including serving as the lead company contact for third-party partners as it relates to matters in their area of support.

Position Requirements

  • Requires 5+ years of prior experience in private or public accounting or similar position, knowledge of GAAP requirements necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with reserve accounting preferred.

  • CPA, CMA preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced Excel required. Oracle, Oracle reports, Essbase, PowerBI, Business Intelligence and other standard business software desired.Knowledge of systems required, knowledge of Oracle, Hyperion a plus.

  • Proven record of driving improvement activity, self - motivated, detail oriented, positive attitude Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communications skills are a must.

  • Ability to work well with cross-functional teams to achieve corporate objectives.

  • Leads by example, possesses a strong work ethic, and strives for excellence.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid office environment offering a balance of on-site work at HQ in Minneapolis, Minnesota with the flexibility to work remotely.
