Clearway Energy Substation Technician in Mojave, California

What The Role Is

Reporting to the Alta O&M building the Substation Technician will conduct maintenance, repairs, inspections, parts Inventory management and road maintenance as designated by the site, of MV & HV electrical equipment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices and maintain a safe working environment.

  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on all substation equipment.

  • Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Supervisors and Site Managers with minimal supervision.

  • Perform routine substation inspections, utilizing Clearway data collection management systems.

  • Assist in the training and development of lower level operation and maintenance personnel.

  • Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair and replacement to correct malfunctions.

  • Documents all work performed, parts utilized, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures.

  • Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

  • Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing.

  • Operate and maintain a service vehicle.

  • Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized.

  • Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary.

  • Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower level technicians in LOTO and good work practices.

  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required.

  • Work a flexible on call schedule when needed. This may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Assist on maintaining site roads.

  • Schedule and maintain NERC compliance schedules.

What You'll Bring

  • A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.

  • Minimum of five years experience in the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of high voltage systems at a power generating facility, or similar industrial setting.

  • Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet. Able to work safely in a confined space.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.

  • Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and electrical knowledge.

  • Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.

  • Able to travel as required.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to use various hand tools.

  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.

  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.

  • Able to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.

  • Able to meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group’s Qualified Electrical Worker program.

What Would Be Nice

  • An associate’s degree (electrical or technical) preferred.

  • Previous experience in SAP is preferred.

The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on geographic location, skills, relevant and demonstrated experience, education, training and certifications, and other factors permitted by law. This role is eligible to earn an annual cash bonus, subject to personal and company performance goals.

Salary Range Across all U.S. Locations

$79,000—$95,000 USD
