Stratolaunch, LLC Systems Engineer (747) in Mojave, California

POSITION SUMMARY

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Together with our customers, we drive innovations that are imperative to advancing national security.

To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking a level II, Sr-, or Staff-Level Systems Engineer to support the integration and testing of the 747 pylon and hypersonic vehicles onto the 747 Carrier Aircraft. This position is responsible for guiding the team through all 747 Carrier Aircraft vehicle-level subsystem tests and combined carrier-store system tests. This position requires the development, organization, and maintenance of stakeholder expectations, technical requirements, derived requirements, test objectives, and requirement verification progress. Additional position requirements are an ability to understand complex subsystems and their interactions with other subsystems, a strong testing background and mentality, and the ability to evaluate what should and shouldn’t be tested and why. Candidates must have an aerospace development background and relevant experience in aerospace systems integration.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to the design and development of aerospace systems and processes from a systems engineering perspective, including:

  • Requirements development and management

  • Creating and documenting engineering processes

  • Building system documentation

  • Designing and documenting verification activities

  • Tracking progress of verification activities

  • Contribute to the integration of complex aerospace systems

  • Regular communications with the 747 Chief Engineer and subsystem Responsible Engineers

  • Travel, as needed, to support the department

  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of subsystem or vehicle-level requirements development, test planning and execution

  • Ability to assess technical risk and communicate any residual risk to the program management team

  • Ability to work on your own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals

  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities

  • Citizenship / ability to hold a US security clearance (Active TS/SCI clearance is preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Complex aerospace system development

  • Direct experience with subsystem or vehicle-level requirements development, test planning and execution

  • Experience leading teams to prepare for major ground and flight test events

  • Experience authoring test plans and organizing data reviews

  • Experience managing requirements using Jama

  • Avionics, electrical, and data system test experience

Required Computer Skills:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Level II ($81,000-$118,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 2-5 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Sr Level ($102,000-$148,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-10 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Staff Level ($128,000-$186,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 10-20 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Special remarks regarding work environment, if applicable

  • Position based in Mojave, CA. Consideration for hybrid (partial remote/on-site) work location arrangements.

  • Travel, as needed, to support the department. Travel estimated to be <5%

Mojave Air & Spaceport is located 95 miles north of Los Angeles. To outsiders it may seem like it is the middle-of-nowhere, but it offers both affordability and central access to a variety of California’s best attractions and landmarks. Wine aficionados will also find easy access to some of the state’s best vino in Paso Robles, Santa Ynez, and even more locally in Tehachapi and Agua Dulce. Beer fanatics will find some of the best West Coast IPAs at Bravery and Lucky Luke’s in Lancaster. Any food option you crave is covered, and we always recommend the authentic and fresh Mexican food that you won’t find anywhere else in the United States.
