This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Manager. ResponsibilitiesThe Hardware Functional Safety Engineer should be motivated to adapt conventional principles and standards into a new, emerging industry. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a product development organization designing to IEC standards in robotics, automation or other industrial segments.The successful candidate will be expected to:Guide the design and implementation of OPEX’s robotic equipment to ensure a functionally safe productApply IEC industrial standards for the development lifecycle of robotic productsWrite or review safety requirement specifications, safety management plans, and verification and validation plansWork as a key member of one or more interdisciplinary teams to execute product designs from concept to production including design, prototype, test, validation, and certification.Provide risk assessment to IEC standards and the validation of safety functions based on structural and statistical methodsAnalyze failure modes, determine the effect of the failure, and identify mitigations and diagnosticsDriving projects to closure; ensuring that systems can be manufactured, deployed, maintained, and meet regulatory requirements for certificationEnsure products comply to machinery safety standards Skills & Qualifications:BS in Electrical Engineering, or related field5+ years of product design experience, preferably with complex electromechanical systemsPrior experience with safety programs for electromechanical products, starting at product concept and continuing through the certification processPrior experience working in a regulated industry (Functional Safety, Military, Medical, Automotive) applying standards to design and work productsAbility to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient and effective waysExperience working with TÜV Rheinland, TÜV SÜD, Exida or similar is a plus!Demonstrated ability to own an assignment and see it through to completion.Excellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to travel when necessary (less than 10%) Physical/Work EnvironmentsEmployee will be working in an office, lab, and production environment with occasional travel to customer sitesSome walking between OPEX facilitiesEmployee may occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
