The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) is a sex offense specific treatment program in a modified therapeutic community and secure setting that provides comprehensive services to 740 civilly committed clients. Services include sex offense specific treatment, education programming, therapeutic recreation, vocational programming, and volunteer services.

The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) is seeking an individual to join our team for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as a Building Utilities Mechanic for our Moose Lake, MN location.

The Building Utilities Mechanic is responsible for installation, maintenance, and repairs on water, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, electrical and laundry/kitchen equipment for the facility physical plant.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting other skilled craft workers including plumbers and mechanical trades to maintain and repair systems which directly impact the operation and security of the facility which includes domestic water, sanitary and storm sewer systems, fire sprinklers, and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) piping systems

  • Assist the Plumber and PME’s in the maintenance and repair of facility underground utilities within the MSOP Moose Lake property

  • Maintaining facility operations by assisting other trades areas in the completion of work requests, preventative maintenance and construction projects

  • Update fire extinguishers and eye wash stations

  • Record all work performed in the Archibus System so all hours worked can be recorded and an accurate account of hours kept

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet the following qualifications listed below:

  • Possess at least one of the following licenses:

  • Journeyman or Master Plumber license

  • Boiler license special engineers or higher

  • Power Limited Technician License

  • Journey worker electrician license or Master electrician license

  • Type I, Type II or Universal Refrigerant certification

  • Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects

  • Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties

Ability to:

  • Perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor trades plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment

  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings

  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner

  • Provide work direction to unskilled helpers
