The Role:

Sets-up, adjusts, checks programming, and operates numerically controlled machine tools, to perform a complex series of progressive machining operations on a diversified line of work to close and exacting tolerances and finishing specifications.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Sets-up and operates various NC/CNC Machining Center, Lathes, Mills and Grinders using the fixturing and tooling specified on the set up or process sheet.

  • Loads and deletes programs as specified by written procedures.

  • Follows machining schedules and performs first piece inspections in accordance to shop practices and written procedures. During production adjusts or replaces tooling to conform to print specification.

  • During machining cycle may be required to perform various other duties such as but not limited to operating additional machines or building various assemblies.

  • Visually and/or dimensionally checks material, supplies, parts, sub-assemblies and finished product for shortages, defects, and non-standard conditions. Upon discovery notifies supervision of all shortages, defects, non-standard conditions and malfunctioning machinery and equipment.

  • Maintains related records, cleans machinery, equipment and work area on a daily basis and performs preventative maintenance as assigned. Moves material as required using hand or power equipment. Performs all related miscellaneous duties as directed by Supervision.

  • May be required to prove out new programs.

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Must read, write, and speak English.

  • Must have a working knowledge of shop mathematics (decimals, fractions, and simple algebra.)

  • Must read and interpret blueprints. Must read and effectively use various precision gauges and measuring instruments to ensure parts are to blueprints specification.

  • Two to three years as a Machinist "A" with schooling in NC/CNC.

  • Must either know or be trained in the following courses:

  • Intro to ISO

  • Blueprint Reading

  • Dimensional Metrology

  • GDT

  • Process Sheets

  • Screw Threads Taps & Dies

  • Statistical Process Control

Physical Demands:

  • Good vision and hearing; ability to stand and walk, lift, and carry 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly.

  • Reach for and handle items, pick, pinch or otherwise work with the fingers and use the fingertips to perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape, and surface finish. Some duties require the ability to climb using stepladders.
