Requisition Summary
This position is located within the Advanced Controls organization at PTC and involves developing and evaluating control systems for next-generation commercial vehicle technologies. Responsibilities include development of electrified vehicle, powertrain, and engine systems for on-road truck applications. Deliverables include: control strategies, application software, relevant documentation to support the pre-development process, and proof-of-concept demonstrations. Additional responsibilities include interfacing with divisions (Kenworth, Peterbilt, PTC, PIC, DAF, PACCAR Parts and ITD). The person will also work with external research and engineering organizations that are partnered with PACCAR.

Division Information
The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR, Inc. through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.
Job Functions / Responsibilities
Systems engineering, modeling/simulation, and controls engineering for development of advanced vehicle systems – including: diesel engine and aftertreatment systems, electrified powertrain, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and advanced powertrain operational strategies
Design architectures and control strategies for advanced heavy-duty vehicle integrated powertrain concepts – including: kinetic energy management, electrical energy management, and maximizing energy conservation
Design functionally safe architectures compliant with ISO 26262, control strategies, and validation methods for vehicle automation systems – with focus on the actuation layer
Develop and maintain plant models from first principles for vehicle powertrain components.
Provide methods to evaluate conventional and hybrid vehicle architecture concepts and associated controls concepts using optimization techniques – including dynamic programming
Concept development and evaluation of advanced vehicle operational strategies
Prove and optimize control strategies using modeling, simulation, SIL, HIL, system, and vehicle testing – where systems, subsystems, and components suitably and best allow
Qualifications
5+ years applicable experience in a breadth of disciplines that could include: electrical, mechanical, controls, and/or chemical engineering. Combinatory experience with the aforementioned disciplines is highly desirable
Demonstrated strong technical knowledge, analysis, communication, design, testing, and troubleshooting skills
Be a self-starter and have demonstrated high levels of resourcefulness, initiative, and innovation
Experience managing technical projects of significant strategic importance
Experience collaborating in technical teams, including managing execution and fostering a positive working environment
Education
Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline required.
Advanced Degree (Master’s or Ph. D) or planned path to attainment desired.
