HB Specialty Foods Material Buyer (Food Production) in Nampa, Idaho

Job Summary:

The Material Buyer is responsible for procuring the material goods necessary to support a food production schedule and environment. This person will analyze material demand signals, identify materials to order, determine appropriate orders sizes and delivery timing, and coordinate these purchases with vendors and HB internal stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Purchase material inputs (ingredients and/or packaging) to support production operations for both industrial and retail products;

  • Attention to just-in-time style buying to effectively manage inventory investment;

  • Set up purchase orders on contract buys and spot purchases;

  • Coordinate with vendors and in-house transportation managers to arrange order shipping/receiving dates and delivery means;

  • Coordinate material delivery schedules with vendors to properly support production operations;

  • Actively communicate with production scheduling team to facilitate nimble and reliable production scheduling;

  • Communicate/coordinate with Regulatory, R&D, and Accounting departments as necessary to support product development, production, and vendor relationships;

  • Analyze product consumption patterns and forecasts to determine appropriate timing of purchases and deliveries with respect to production schedules and inventory levels;

  • Work with vendors and internal stakeholders to quickly and effectively resolve pricing discrepancies and claims on defective/nonconforming/contaminated products;

  • Communicate with vendors and the HB purchasing team to manage fluctuations in material pricing and availability, with particular attention to material shortages and long-lead time items;

  • Assist R&D and Regulatory departments with new item sourcing and pricing;

  • Work with vendors and the HB receiving office in obtaining timely order confirmations, Certificates of Analysis, and other necessary supporting documentation; and

  • Coordinate with purchasing and supply chain managers on item cost maintenance and vendor relationship development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Punctual and self-motivated;

  • Able to work in a fast-paced and high-intensity environment;

  • Excellent communication skills within a cross-functional level environment (i.e. throughout the company and across multiple departments);

  • Proficient with computer applications?MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the Internet;

  • Detail oriented;

  • Able to work in a facility that handles allergens including, but not limited to: wheat, soy, egg, milk, and tree nuts; and

  • Able to work in open environments with exposure to potentially pungent odors and varying climates.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor?s (or higher) degree or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience in a food industry setting, purchasing or otherwise; experience in a purchasing role in a food industry setting or other commodity-based environment a plus.
