Position Announcement: Digital Solutions Architect

Vanderbilt University and the Vanderbilt Libraries are in an exciting time of transformation. With new leadership at the Chancellor, Provost and University Librarian levels, the Libraries are re-envisioning the future of library services at Vanderbilt. Through radical collaboration we seek to deepen student and faculty engagement with the libraries, equip students for life-long information proficiency, increase faculty research impact, create more opportunities for interdisciplinary experimentation, and optimize access to collections and resources, including marginalized and hidden histories and cultures.

We are seeking a team member to help us educate the next generation of leaders and enable research that solves our most pressing problems. We are looking for an innovative and user-centered problem solver ready to join our collaborative environment and transform library services.

The Digital Solutions architect is a key part of the Digital Lab. The Solutions Architect is the primary technical liaison between the Digital Lab and campus partners including the Advanced Computing Center, Data Science Institute, and Wond’ry. In this capacity, the Solutions Architect advises on existing local compute capacity and onboards researchers to its use. Additionally, the Solutions Architect advances existing digital projects, including their technical and administrative infrastructure, and designs and deploys extensible solutions to a broad array of emerging projects. Collaborating with technologists across the Libraries and campus, the Solutions Architect develops and implements strategies for collaborative solutions to multifaceted challenges.

This position is open until April 30, 2024, and resume review begins May 1. A cover letter and resume are required to be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as primary technical liaison between the Digital Lab and campus partners such as Research IT, the Advanced Computing Center for Research & Education, Wond’ry, and the Data Science Institute.

  • Develops and deploys technologies to enhance research and teaching.

  • Coordinates trainings with research groups and individual faculty and staff on local advanced computing resources.

  • In coordination with Digital Lab staff, Librarians, and campus partners seeks out and applies for external funding opportunities to advance the Lab’s mission.

  • Consults with students, faculty, and staff on technologies and methodologies for digital projects.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or related discipline, or relevant experience and certifications, is required. Post-graduate degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of distributed data storage and processing software and frameworks is required.

  • Ability to design and teach methods and technologies in digital scholarship broadly and research computing specifically is required.

  • Experience developing front-end web applications is required

  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, HTML/CSS, Java, as well as JavaScript frameworks is required.

  • Robust communications, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills is preferred.
