Amazon Senior Operations Engineer, North American Capacity Engineering in Nashville, Tennessee

Amazon is seeking a Sr. Operations Engineer to support the Amazon Logistics North America (AMZL NA) Capacity Engineering team. This role will manage the capacity of multiple last mile sites and partner with Topology, Operations, Design/Process/Network Engineering, Finance, and other planning teams to build a reliable view of short/mid/long term capacity. In this role, the Operations Engineer will drive innovation in developing the future of delivery operations to better serve customers and maximize the utilization of Amazon assets by increasing network capacity with frugal solutions. This is a high visibility role working with senior leaders to enable strategic and tactical decision-making.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the life-cycle of complex cross-functional projects with considerable impact (projects may span organizations or geographies in support of a business objective)

  • Define projects (scope, delivery, budget), set objectives, analyze data, drive improvements to metrics, and influence direction

  • Develop 24-hour operations clocks which optimize the use of time while balancing competing objectives

  • Actively drive progress across multiple efforts in parallel, independently managing priorities and relationships with other teams to effectively deliver results

  • Influence building design decisions through detailed evaluation of constraints

  • Drive capacity alignment between capacity planning tools and other tools & systems

  • Support day to day execution for a subset of NA AMZL sites and take ownership to quickly remove constraints and barriers

  • Serve as an ambassador for the Capacity Engineering team, helping others understand our space and identifying opportunities for collaboration

  • Write effective documents for diverse audiences, including senior leaders

About the team

The Capacity Engineering team serves as a key stakeholder in efforts across AMZL that may impact the network's capacity or utilization. This means we contribute critical analysis cross-functionally to make strategic decisions.

Our mission ensures AMZL scales to the right capacity in the right place at the right time. We continuously innovate to improve speed for customers and reduce costs for delivery.

We are a highly collaborative team that moves quickly to remove barriers for our customers. We advocate for objective, data-driven models of the real world but constantly seek feedback (anecdotal and data) to better predict ground truth.

Basic Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with and understanding complex processes and workflows

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis

  • Ability to contribute to the design and improvement of operational processes

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related STEM field

  • Alternatively, relevant operational experience and background may be considered in lieu of an engineering degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree

  • Educational background in engineering or supply chain management

  • Experience in manufacturing environments or supply chain environments

  • Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, or similar tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $107,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $177,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
