Position Shelter Aide

About the Position
Summary:This position will be under the direction of the CAP/EAS Director and Shelter Counseling Manager.Responsibilities:
Provides consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working within the team and independently to complete all shift tasks.
Monitor and supervise the shelter and client’s affairs, assist clients of the shelter with their needs and questions, and maintains shelter order in accordance with AHA policy.
Enforces shelter policies and follows staff policies and procedures.
Monitors the activities of clients to ensure the safety of clients, volunteers and staff.
Help clients resolve any issues if/when they arise.
Help community agencies with questions or issues when necessary.
Provide crisis intervention as needed, including determining when it is necessary to involve other staff, administration, or the authorities.
Maintains written and oral communication of incidents in accordance with policies.
Reports any problems to the Shelter Manager, Assistant Director, and/or Director of CAP/EAS.
Completes work timesheets bi-weekly.
Attends staff meetings and participates in activities designated by the Shelter Manager, Assistant Director, and/or Director of CAP/EAS.
Carry out all job duties in a manner that is consistent with AHA’s mission, philosophy, and policies.
Other duties may be assigned by the Shelter Manager, Assistant Director, and/or Director of CAP/EAS.
High School Diploma or equivalent plus 1 year related work experience.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must have the capacity to deal with diverse clients with various levels of needs.
Must have a valid NJ Driver’s license and clean driving record.
Must have a current TB Vaccination.
Holidays, overnights, evenings, and weekends are required.
Ability to perform physical tasks: move objects, bend and lift (up to) 30 lbs.
Hours:Full-time/40 hours per week
