The Position

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. This position is to underfill a Staff 2, Associate Engineers perform a wide variety of professional engineering functions not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors. This position is located in Carson City within the Road Design Division. The Incumbent will develop contract plans to construct roadway projects throughout the State. Duties include producing computer aided drafting drawings (CADD) that represent roadway cross sections, freeway interchanges, roundabouts, sidewalk, traffic control, striping, and special construction details. Staff 2 Engineers establish roadway geometrics using design standards set by AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD and NDOT policy. Staff 2 Engineers will work within a team to complete a contract plan set; the incumbent will be assigned tasks such as calculating quantities, developing estimates, and producing CADD drawings. Staff 2 Engineers will coordinate and communicate with other NDOT Divisions to incorporate other engineering disciplines within the contract plans. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
