Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with all procedures, rules and regulations. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as, but not limited to, manual lathes and milling machines, CNC lathes and milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Write moderately complex programs for CNC Lathes and milling machines using specified cam system. Have a functional understanding of machining parameters and tool selection for a variety of materials including, but not limited to, aluminum, low carbon steel, tool steel, stainless steel, Inconel and a variety of polymers. Have a functional understanding of the processes for heat treating materials to print specified hardness and operate heat treating equipment. Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operation needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances. Blueprints may include GDandT. Make design change suggestions based on an understanding of the limitations of the machining equipment. Assemble equipment using mechanical drawings and engineering information as needed. Assist in the design, machine and assemble simple fixtures as required Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers. Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers. Review Drawing packages and Create list of the required material and supplies Perform preventative maintenance work on shop equipment as assigned. Work effectively with limited supervision. Communicate and perform effectively, both independently and in a team environment. Assist in training lower labor grade machinist in the advancement of their knowledge of machining practices and equipment. Other duties as assigned. :::
