Job Description

Manages, plans, organizes and evaluates the staff, activities and resources of Pharmacy operations. Prepares and dispenses medications in accordance with established policies and procedures when needed to maintain operational objectives. Maintains operational records and statistics. May lead or participate-in department projects, studies or initiatives.

Job Responsibility

  • Provides leadership to Pharmacy team members and supervisors by communicating and guiding toward achieving department objectives.

  • Develops, communicates, and builds consensus for goals in alignment with the health system.

  • Manages day-to-day operations; participates in developing recommended operating goals and objectives; prioritizes, schedules, assigns and monitors work to optimize operational service; analyzes, recommends, implements, and monitors approved work-flow changes.

  • Recommends, implements, and evaluates operating policies, procedures and processes; ensures operating compliance with government and agency regulations; leads and facilitates staff in evaluating and implementing Quality Control/ Performance Improvement related practices; participates in hospital QC/PI groups; documents non-formulary drug approvals, restricted drug approvals and unusual medication orders.

  • Handles unusual problems to resolution; maintains operational records and statistics; monitors and/or prepares compounding and dispensing of parenteral admixtures and controlled drugs.

  • Manages resources including operating budget, supplies, equipment, space, staff and information; implements and adheres to approved operating budget; reports operational performance, and provides justification and/or corrective action; prepares billing charges for Finance.

  • Selects, mentors, leads and evaluates direct reports; participates in developing and delivering educational presentations; maintains adequate controls over requisitioning and dispensing of all pharmaceuticals.

  • Evaluates equipment and recommends maintenance, repair, upgrade or replacement; participates in the planning and utilization of space.

  • Oversees the maintenance and integrity of conventional and computer-aided records and information; prepares and dispenses medications to in-patients in accordance with established policy and procedure including reviewing orders for completeness, interactions, incompatibilities and other inconsistencies.

  • Consults with prescriber when discrepancies are identified.

  • May lead or participate-in projects, studies or initiatives that are common to both business units.

Job Qualification

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy required.

  • Current License to practice as a Pharmacist in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.

  • 6-8 years of relevant experience and 2-5 years of leadership / management experience, required.

Highly preferred:

PGY2 Ambulatory Care experience

When determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

The salary range for this position is $140,100-$245,200/year
