This position will support the administration of high risk travel applications and assist in the provision of effective security for American Express facilities, its employees, contractors, visitors and customers. Based in Sydney, responsible for Sydney and offices across A/NZ, reporting to the Security Manager, A/NZ.

This position includes providing ad hoc on-call and physical operational support, investigation of cases of theft and other criminal acts, providing support to the company’s Workplace Violence Prevention Program and ensuring the operational security function in the region within the framework of security policies and procedures. The incumbent will also be involved in Crisis Response and some Fire & Emergency procedures.

The incumbent should have excellent interpersonal skills and a good understanding of verbal and written English as well as being computer literate. There will be a requirement to interact with individuals at all levels of the organisation.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Assist in the administration of business travel to high risk locations in the APAC region.

  • Assist in Security Service operations at offices in Sydney, Melbourne and New Zealand.

  • Support the company Crisis Response policy.

  • Assist in Executive Protection assignments in the A/NZ region as required.

  • Gathers intelligence in relation to security risk and current trends which could threaten the security of Amex staff and assets in the region.

  • When required conduct security audits and site reviews with recommendations to senior business leaders

  • Provide company operational guidance, including working towards commonality of approach in crisis situations, incident response and employee safety issues.

  • Communicate and enforce security policies and procedures covering the handling of both routine and emergency facility security matters.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all incidents, security breaches, suspicious activity or complaints in the region are investigated and reported with suitable recommendations to prevent recurrence.

  • Conduct or assist in routine Fire Evacuation drills.

  • Help identify and apprise significant security issues through the timely preparation of various statistical and administrative reports addressing any major issue likely to impact the business.

  • In support of Global Security, work with APAC markets on refining the colleague emergency messaging system (On Solve)

  • Maintain regular contact with all project and maintenance teams carrying out work at Amex facilities within the region and attend related meetings, as required.

  • Actively participate in industry related groups and schemes (Security Institute, OSAC, ASIS, etc.) and seek peer contacts to assist in the flow of security and business related intelligence and current crime trends.

  • Be available to undertake ad hoc on-call duties as defined.

  • Perform any other duties as directed by the Director, Security & Investigations

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of Travel Risk Management.

  • Experience in Crisis Management.

  • Knowledge of Event & Executive Protection

  • Good English language comprehension, both verbal and written.

  • The individual must have the ability to remain calm in an emergency situation.

  • This individual must display strong leadership skills, a courteous and tactful manner with the ability to remain calm and attain information in stressful situations.

  • They must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, at times to tight deadlines, as well as being able to manage their own workload and diary.

  • The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of physical security. Be computer literate and have basic knowledge of security technology systems.

  • Experience in a security related field. Current security licence preferred but not essential

  • In possession of or willing to work towards a recognised Security Management qualification.

  • Some knowledge or previous experience in the fields of Health & Safety, Business Continuity, Crisis Response or Fire & Emergency.

  • Liaise with Global Security Investigations and other internal business units to obtain information on investigations, clarification of procedures, and requirements for protection of Company assets. Where required, assist in internal investigations.

  • The incumbent has regular dealings with security guarding and security system contractors, law enforcement and government agencies and emergency services.

  • The incumbent must possess strong leadership skills to effectively manage emergency situations. This requires the ability to quickly analyse a situation/potential problem, apply security expertise, and act decisively, on occasions independently, to effectively resolve the situation with the resources available.
