GENERAL DUTIES
I.T. Senior Associates perform highly complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Senior Associates perform a range of work in development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include diagnosing, evaluating, overseeing and resolving highly complex projects. They have wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may serve in lead roles on complex programs or projects, and/or serve as a direct supervisor of a unit or group.
I.T. Senior Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines, decision-making ability in situations related to those disciplines, and be able to serve as a resource in these areas. They may contribute to decisions on I.T. policies and technical standards.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Office of Computing and Information Services (CIS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) supports the IT and telecommunications needs of CUNY's 25 colleges. CIS supports enterprise IT and applications, identifies and develops new technologies that advance the University's core mission, operates and maintains the University's network, the enterprise Data Center, and the CUNY Service Desk, and manages the processes that safeguard the University’s IT assets and maintaining the security posture by operating the CUNY Security Operations Center (SOC). Additionally, CIS develops disaster recovery plans for business continuity, supports the CUNYfirst Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that integrates student administration, financial management, and human resources operations across CUNY’s 25 colleges, and provides strategic and operational IT leadership across all CUNY campuses.
Reporting to the Academic Collaboration Technology Applications Support Manager, the Applications Support Administrator will be responsible for managing the resolution of application and platform issues that arise, handling the implementation, integration, and production support of multiple on-prem and cloud-based applications and platforms used to support the University's academic and administrative communities. This is a hands-on production support and software applications troubleshooting role, which will require strict adherence to ITIL support processes, applying best practices in the areas of Incident/Problem/Change/Release Management. The role requires collaboration with internal and external partners including system owners as Development Teams, BAs, Project Managements, Platform and Quality Assurance teams, and end users. The incumbent will oversee the installation and maintenance of software applications to streamline business operations.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Performs in-depth technical analysis and resolution of complex enterprise-level application systems issues; optimizes software application performance, installs updates, and performs debugging procedures.
Assesses and designs product-specific solutions and implements as needed.
Researches, proactively identifies, diagnoses, and troubleshoots applications and processes issues that may arise, providing potential solutions.
Delivers timely remediation of reported software application issues; prioritizes multiple open issues to ensure helpdesk tickets are resolved in a timely manner.
Conducts root cause analysis of application issues; documents issue triage as troubleshooting progresses; follows best practices for change control of proposed solutions; maintains service reports; documents actionable bugs for engineering resolution.
Maintains and updates technical documents and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
Models a Client-First approach in response to general questions and remedies requests/incident tickets, providing resolution in a timely manner.
Collaborates and works closely with technical/non-technical teams, such as the Project Management Office to develop and monitor project plans, budgets, status reports, scope documents, and other project-related documents, as well as quality assurance staff regarding planning and migration from testing through production;
Provides support for new and existing student data reports.
Demonstrates an active role in identifying and implementing other technologies in administrative and faculty support related to this initiative.
Serves as point of contact for performance trending and operational knowledge of the team’s software stack.
NOTES:
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.
An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution and an equivalent of ten (10) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technologyrelated position OR
An Associate’s degree plus eight (8) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution plus six (6) years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position
Demonstrated English language proficiency, including the ability to speak, read, write and understand English well enough to meet minimally acceptable performance standards set for job tasks
A Motor Vehicle Driver’s License, current and valid in the State of New York, may be required for some, but not all, positions
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate or possess:
6+ Years’ experience with architect/designer; implementing capacity planning, upgrading, performance tuning, troubleshooting mid and large-scale enterprises, virtualization, and distributed server computing environments on-prem or on cloud (Bear metal/hardware/VMWare vSphere Hypervisor) and business continuity migration and upgrades
Strong experience with Middleware such as Tomcat, Apache, Websphere, WebLogic, web server setup, and tunings
Strong experience in designing, implementing, and deploying Apache web server and mod_ssl Modifying Bash She scripts in Redhat Linux
Experience with load-balancing and high-availability strategies with Tomcat
Experience with Apache web for SSO with Oracle Access Manager
Experience with Monitoring of web and application server environments, including Health Monitoring and tuning data source connection pools
Knowledge of Python, JavaScript, CSS, Oracle SQL, Unix shell scripting (bash), Java development
Knowledge of security protocols such as SSL and TLS
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Server, UNIX / Linux
Understanding of web services – XML/REST/SOAP
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work with and articulate the needs of students, faculty, and staff
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
COMPENSATION
The salary is $99,599.
