Actalent Asbestos Inspector in New York, New York

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Scientist/Asbestos Inspector with at least 2 years of experience to join our team in the New York City area. This position offers an excellent opportunity to advance your career in environmental science, focusing on asbestos inspections, abatement project oversight, and compliance with regulatory standards. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a dynamic team, working on a variety of environmental projects, including hazardous materials inspections, environmental monitoring, and field sampling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct asbestos inspections in compliance with New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) regulations.

  • Assess asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in buildings, structures, and facilities.

  • Collect bulk and air samples for laboratory analysis to determine asbestos content.

  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, including findings, recommendations, and regulatory compliance information.

  • Oversee asbestos abatement projects, ensuring compliance with both state and federal regulations.

  • Perform environmental monitoring during asbestos removal and abatement activities, including air sampling and clearance testing.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of asbestos management plans, including surveillance of known asbestos-containing materials.

  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure safe and compliant asbestos abatement practices.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, air monitoring, and abatement activities in compliance with NYSDOL and EPA standards.

  • Adhere to all safety protocols, environmental laws, and regulations during field inspections and abatement activities.

  • Support the development of site-specific health and safety plans related to asbestos handling.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Chemistry, or a related field.

  • NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector License.

  • 2+ years of experience in asbestos inspection or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of hazardous materials, environmental monitoring, and field sampling techniques.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to travel to various field sites as required.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications (e.g., Air Sampling Professional).

  • Previous experience with environmental consulting firms or contractors.

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $55.00
