DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC. These shelters serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelters as well as those in the neighboring community. HFH is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Director of Human Resources. Under the leadership of the Deputy Executive Director, this role will lead the Human Resources Department, through every stage of the employee’s life cycle, from recruitment to separation, and will ensure compliance with relevant laws, policies, and procedures. We are seeking a leader who can initiate and drive change in the Human Resources Department and through trainings and innovative initiatives, foster an organizational culture of engagement. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of connecting with all employees and will cultivate a strong department presence across our multiple locations.

We are looking for candidates that are willing to take the initiative, have a creative approach to problem solving, and are able work both independently and collaboratively with teams to promote efficiency and effectiveness within the organization.

This role will work closely with Executive and Senior Management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, training, employee benefits, employment compliance, performance/disciplinary management, and separation.

  • Manage a team of 5 or 6 employees including an HR Manager, Recruiter, HR Associates, and a Training and Staff Engagement Coordinator.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and city laws and regulations related to employment practices.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant agency policies and procedures and help with the development and implementation of these.

  • Manage the position control roster to ensure hiring is within approved budget levels, while meeting the staffing needs of specific programs and departments.

  • Work closely with Executive and Senior Management to understand the agency’s hiring and training needs, and employee engagement expectations.

  • Develop and implement best practices for staff recruitment, employee retention and talent management.

  • Liaison with our HRIS system (currently ADP) to ensure it is being used to its full abilities, maximizing the use of reporting and analytics, and promoting the efficiency and digitalization of human resources processes.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Ability to take charge and propose solutions.

  • Ability to think creatively and think big picture.

  • Strong Interpersonal skills. Have a flexible and positive work attitude.

  • Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills.

  • Proficient knowledge of HRIS systems, ADP Workforce Now preferred

  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office (proficiency in Excel is required)

SALARY:

$105,000 - $110,000
