The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The GCP/PDL Operations Analyst oversees a variety of projects and initiatives and provides administrative assistance and logistical support for the Graduate Career Placement (GCP) and Professional Development & Leadership (PDL) units of Engineering Student Affairs (ESA). Key responsibilities include (1) managing the system and operational needs of the GCP and PDL units; (2) executing administrative policies and procedure and managing platforms used by GCP and PDL (e.g. VMock, Grammarly); (3) reporting and analysis within GCP/PDL unit in collaboration with Institutional Research team; (4) overall support of Engineering Student Affairs initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • (35%) PDL Systems/Operations

    • Oversee and manage student database and related data; Maintain PDL attendance system.
    • Work with institutional research to improve optimization of tracking and reporting; Analyze student attendance data to identify students of concern and highlight them for the PDL team.
    • Set up technologies and course administration applications to track student progress, host videos/tutorials, communication, and assignments; Source/test/implement technology and other resources (e.g. applications, systems, tools) to support professional development.
    • Obtain and manage resources (rooms, materials) needed for PDL purposes; oversee listing of PDL courses each semester and allocation of classrooms across PDL and GCP needs.
    • Manage daily operations, projects, and troubleshooting of PDL systems; enhance student and staff experience by improving service delivery and optimization; track metrics and develop KPIs; analyze relevant data and make recommendations to improve services and workflows.
    • Maintain and develop PDL websites in accordance with the School's best practices.

  • (30%)GCP Systems/Operations

    • Manage and administer various student/employer/advisor-facing systems that facilitate placement and career development, including the continued growth of Columbia Engineering Career Connect; Maintain GCP student database and related data.
    • Source/test/implement technology and other resources (e.g. applications, systems, tools) to support graduate career placement.
    • Obtain and manage resources (rooms, materials) needed for GCP; oversee the allocation of classrooms across PDL and GCP needs.
    • Maintain GCP attendance data system.
    • Manage daily operations, projects, and troubleshooting of GCP systems; enhance student and staff experience by improving service delivery and optimization; track metrics and develop KPIs; analyze relevant data and make recommendations to improve services and workflows.
    • Maintain and develop GCP websites in accordance with the School's best practices.

  • (20%) Data and Reporting

    • Capture and analyze the attendance and evaluation data collected from GCP/PDL programs.
    • Administer and analyze job placement data in partnership with the department career team.
    • Report all employment statistics after each graduation date and annually as required by the School and other agencies.
    • In collaboration with the Institutional Research team, create surveys, reports, and other data documentation as needed.
  • (10%) Engineering Student Affairs
    • Support signature Columbia Engineering student affairs activities including Welcome Day, Graduate Engineers Connect, graduation ceremonies, and other school-wide initiatives for engineering students.
    • Serve on ESA committees, support large-scale student life programming, and participate in division-wide ESA priories as needed.
  • (5%) Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is required; graduate-level work is preferred. Minimum of 2-4 years of related student/academic affairs or professional development experience required.

  • Familiar with student career development, coaching, and large-group facilitation.

  • Familiar with student and academic affairs, departmental program curriculum and requirements, and web management and administration.

  • Able to analyze and work with large volumes of student data.

  • Strong computer literacy/proficiency required: an understanding and appreciation of student services database software and online resources, and the willingness and enthusiasm to respond to the needs of PDL program students in an increasingly technologically-oriented society.

  • Proficiency with Google suite of products, MS Office, publishing software, social media, etc.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal and administrative skills.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, with a high level of attention to detail.

  • Candidates must exercise good judgment and flexibility.

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff, faculty, students, employers, and alumni in small and large group settings-excellent command of English (verbal and written).

  • Must be willing to work on occasional evenings and weekends, on a need basis.

  • Positive, mission-oriented, forward-thinking attitude and sense of humor a must.
