GENERAL DUTIES

I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities.

I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Associate 3 - Systems Administrator to join our dynamic IT team at Baruch College. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining the college's IT infrastructure, with a focus on Windows Server, VMware, Hyper-V, VDI environment, Active Directory, and Proofpoint.

Key Responsibilities:

Server Administration:

  • Manage and administer Windows Server environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.

  • Configure and maintain virtualization platforms, including VMware and Hyper-V.

  • Monitor server resources, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance tasks.

VDI Administration:

  • Administer and support Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions, ensuring seamless and efficient desktop virtualization for end-users.

  • Troubleshoot VDI-related issues and optimize performance for a diverse user base.

Active Directory Management:

  • Oversee and maintain the college's Active Directory environment, including user accounts, group policies, and security settings.

  • Identity Management administration

  • Implement and manage Active Directory-related services such as DNS and DHCP.

  • Desktop Security Administration

  • Email Security Administration:

  • Serve as the administrator for Proofpoint or similar email security solutions.

  • Implement and manage email security policies, spam filters, and phishing prevention measures.

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support to end-users, addressing issues related to servers, virtualization, and directory services.

  • Collaborate with other IT team members to resolve escalated technical problems efficiently.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Generate regular reports on system performance, security, and compliance.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to ensure seamless integration of systems and services.

  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on system-related best practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent

  2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position

  3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency

  4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.

This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in system administration with a focus on Windows Server, VMware, Hyper-V, VDI, Active Directory, and Proofpoint.

  • Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., Microsoft, VMware) is highly desirable.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry best practices.

COMPENSATION

$89,369.

BENEFITS

CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
