The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Postdoctoral Research Scientist in New York, New York

One Postdoctoral Research Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xueling Wu at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center of Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a Research Center of National and International Excellence. The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong institutional and global collaborations. Our research ranges from basic biology of viruses/pathogens to clinical trials as well as structural biology and bioinformatics.

Dr. Wu's lab research efforts are focused on developing strategies for HIV-1 prevention, treatment, and eradication. Research directions include the development of anti-HIV broadly neutralizing antibodies and antibodies with Fc-effector functions, with an emphasis on IgA. The knowledge learned from anti-HIV protective antibodies will be applied to HIV vaccine development. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic the research in the Wu laboratory has expanded to include antibody responses to coronaviruses and other zoonotic viruses with pandemic potential.

As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you will work in an internationally established and strong research environment towards the developing prevention and therapeutic strategies and understanding of these viral infections. Your main role will be to conduct independent lab research, design and execute in vitro and/or in vivo experiments and analyze and interpret results as well as effectively communicate research results in publications and oral presentations. Some of the work will be done under BSL2 and/or BSL3 environments.

Minimum Degree Requirements: MD or PhD degree in microbiology, virology, cell biology, immunology, or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications:

*Hands-on, direct experience in virology, molecular/cell biology, biochemistry/biophysics techniques, flow cytometric analyses, cell culture and solid understanding of fundamental virology, immunology, and protein biology.

*Demonstrated ability for independent as well as collaborative work

*Demonstrated experience in scientific writing and effective communication skills

*Good team player with interpersonal skills and a considerate manner

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced knowledge in B cell biology, molecular and cellular biology techniques, experience working in a biosafety level 2 and above is preferred.
