Global Real Estate and Workplace Experience Design and Construction (GREWE D/C)
GREWE Design and Construction Department is part of the global Real Estate team at American Express (Amex) responsible for the planning and execution of Design and Construction projects. GREWE supports over 65,000 Amex colleagues and contractors in over eight million square feet of property located in 41 countries. GREWE D/C also supports various Amex Business units that have specific and unique requirements relating to the design and/or construction necessary to support American Express Business ventures.
Our real estate portfolio includes 20 Centurion Airport Lounges that deliver Premium experiences for American Express Card Members. The Centurion Lounge Program continues to grow and will require the support of GREWE D/C to implement. This position is an exciting opportunity to strengthen Amex’s portfolio of Centurion Lounges which supports the Card Business. The ideal candidate will bring a robust background in Design and Construction, process optimization, and vendor management to American Express Company.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Senior Project Manager supporting the Director and Centurion Team within Amex. The position will be key to support the delivery of this unique project type. Projects vary in scope and scale and the responsibilities of the PM will include implementation of Process, Procedure, and Controls to deliver renovated, new, and/or uplifted lounge locations, and objectives as outlined by the Director in charge of the Program.
The PM will report to the GREWE D/C Program Director based in New York City. The role will include travel as necessary and working directly with the D/C Team at Amex offices at 200 Vesey in NYC three times a week (if not traveling). This is considered a hybrid designation. Due to the responsibilities of this role the candidate will be expected to manage, plan, and coordinate travel itineraries and requirements. The ability to travel and to work efficiently in a mobile environment is required.
This position will focus on supporting the Program Director with management and delivery of engineering scope (MEPS/FA/Structural). On average, 40% of the lounge space and cost will be based on support spaces and equipment. Familiarity with code requirements, standards relating to engineering design, engineering design delivery, will be an aspect of the roles and responsibilities of this position.
The role is both a challenge and an opportunity due to the variety of projects, project locations and the variety of stakeholders. The Candidate should indicate the following key requirements:
A grounding in general industry knowledge related to the design and construction Industry including understanding of financial terms and principles as they apply to the design and construction process. The skills to anticipate regulatory and approval processes as well as critical path workflow to ensure positive project momentum. Also, a good to fully informed understanding of typical infrastructure systems that would support the genre of Lounge’s.
Understanding Project Management Methodology focusing on risks to project delivery which includes identifying and forecasting project issues with the objective to mitigating risk.
Vendor Management: the ability to analyze and interpret service agreements and contracts with professional engineers. Understand conditions of leases with respect to construction, facilities design, and impact of economic and local contracting issues related to construction.
Skill in communicating project requirements, project status, and issues relating to project delivery. This would include soft skills such as verbal communications as well as hard skills associated with the ability to produce supporting documentation that is clear and concise.
Time Management: Various stakeholders and leadership are remotely located. The role would require communicating as necessary to coordinate remotely as well as across time zones.
The position provides the opportunity to assist in project development from “end to end”. As part of the team the candidate will drive procedural processes and compliance controls and may be expected to act as the primary point of authority on governance and accountability for projects.
The role may include the following:
Project inception: Assist in procurement of the AE and construction teams to perform scope related to existing conditions assessments, programming, feasibility studies, and budgeting. Tracking and coordination of regulatory submissions, bidding, construction, and project closeout documents.
Project Documentation: Generating and maintaining the overall Project Plan developed in tandem with various stakeholders and the Program Director. Assist the Director to guide the projects through American Express’ internal compliance processes and meet with stakeholders on a continual basis to ensure project stakeholder understanding.
Process Optimization: Facilitating communications among and between various stakeholders by providing the necessary document framework to support alignment of Project status and delivery. Leading the projects through external stakeholders’ processes.
Vendor Management: Ensure the consultant partners deliver, are responsive, and comply with program, applicable guidelines, codes, and standards and meet established schedule, and budget targets. Helping manager vendors to think strategically.
Coordination with Procurement: Manage the RFP and competitive bid process with stakeholders (mainly the procurement team) and participate in selection of vendors and contract negotiation.
Process Management: enforce protocols to maintain consistency, compliance, and efficiency to ensure projects are completed in accordance with all audit and Amex requirements across various Country requirements. Governance: deliver on procedural processes and compliance controls required by Amex leadership and finance.
GREWE would like to see in candidates’ submissions relevant experience and key competencies:
List previous relevant experience and employers especially projects requiring coordination with governmental authorities and bureaucratic organizational structures.

Discuss/describe a project where the candidate was part of a project team responsible for creation and maintenance of a project plan including managing budgets. The ability to solicit and synthesize input from end users, leadership, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
Discuss/describe projects that required the candidate to interface with various stakeholders for effective project delivery indicating cost control activities.
Discuss projects that display knowledge base/fundamentals of management, pitfalls to avoid, opportunities to expedite progress. Also, projects where a unique strategy was implemented to minimize risks.
Discuss and indicate: Ability to identify risks to the project and lead design teams. Ability to set achievable deadlines and be accountable for meeting them.
Additionally, the candidate can show or indicate experience of various project approaches tailored to circumstance and typical documents used to manage projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
7 years of work experience in project management, three years of which would include management of multiple and or highly complex projects.
Experience working on at least two side of the business (i.e., consultant, construction manager, owner, owner’s representative, architect, engineer, or contractors).
Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Bachelor degree in planning and design, architecture, or engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Airport construction experience a plus.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
