Global Real Estate and Workplace Experience (GREWE)

Global Real Estate and Workplace Experience (GREWE) is the global team at American Express (Amex) responsible for the full lifecycle of planning, execution, and operations of Amex real estate. GREWE supports over 65,000 Amex colleagues and contractors in over eight million square feet of property located in 41 countries. Our real estate portfolio consists of large full-service campuses, office buildings, sales offices, and airport lounges. The sites may be owned, leased, or be occupied through a serviced space arrangement. Real estate is part of the broader Global Servicing Group organization which delivers shared business services to colleagues across the enterprise.

Reporting to the Director of GREWE ESG & Workplace Sustainability, the Renewable Energy Manager will be responsible for supporting company-wide program management for Amex’s renewable energy portfolio strategy, including assessing business requirements, generation and evaluation of strategic proposals, development of business cases for selected strategies, and reporting out on actual renewable energy and offsets against goals. In this role you will partner with key stakeholders including teams within GREWE, sustainability, finance, technology, legal, risk, and Amex senior leadership. As the Renewable Energy Manager, you will be a integral member of the ESG team that formulates, refines, and executes Amex’s ESG strategy, builds the associated ESG infrastructure and solutions, and provides recommendations to leadership to improve ESG initiatives. You will work cross-functionally to define, execute, and continuously improve Amex’s ESG programs and support key data collection, analytics, and reporting activities. In addition, you will advise the team and other stakeholders on the current renewable energy market, manage strategies to reduce Amex’s carbon footprint, improve economic outcomes, help to manage tax and other financial consequences, and optimize GHG reductions across Amex’s global real estate portfolio. The role requires (i), a strong energy background and proven track record of developing and delivering on renewable energy projects, (ii) advanced data analysis skills with tools such as Excel, and (iii) a strong ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in written and verbal form to stakeholders across the Amex organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Apply in-depth energy and utility specific knowledge to propose recommendations to introduce new renewable energy procurement processes or service capabilities that align with and support our corporate energy and sustainability goals.

  • Design and negotiate electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid, reduce cost, minimize risk, and leverage opportunities that optimize Amex’s goals.

  • Procure and manage energy & utility operations for Amex through renewable energy contracting (PPA, VPPA, etc).

  • Execute on Amex’s Renewable Energy Credit (REC) and offset purchasing strategy including developing a comprehensive framework, sourcing, procurement, optimization, management of third-party verification, and monitoring.

  • Develop integrated tools and dashboards to facilitate Amex strategic decision making and reporting of renewable energy performance to leadership and various other stakeholders.

  • Conduct sourcing and competitive bidding processes (RFx) and negotiate agreements for vendors to develop and deploy renewable power generation including solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, solar inverters, trackers, and energy storage equipment across Amex facilities.

  • Provide analytical support including cost benefit analysis, risk quantification, and validation of external financial and operational models for multiple GREWE sustainability special projects.

  • Support the creation and updating of Amex’s annual global and market-level ESG reports.

  • Partner with external contractors to support execution on Amex’s environmental sustainability deliverables within GREWE’s scope of operations.

  • Contribute to the development and execution of GREWE strategic plans that advance Amex’s ESG goals and performance targets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant subject matter expertise in renewable energy technologies including solar, wind, hydro, and other emerging technologies.

  • Knowledge and experience working in policy, legislation, and regulation driving state and federal REC and carbon markets both within the United States and globally.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully originating and executing renewable energy transactions, including project finance.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business operations and technical challenges, with the skill set to drive tactical execution of projects, contracts, initiatives, and team goals.

  • Negotiation and contract management skills, with knowledge of regulations pertaining to the energy and utilities markets, as well as an understanding of GHG accounting practices.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills to manage multiple workstreams and priorities, ability to consistently meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. A strong attention to detail is a must.

  • Ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships both internally across the enterprise and with external parties.

  • Ability to work within a global organization and manage projects and initiatives with teams across multiple time zones.

  • Working knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks, such as RE100, GHG Protocol, SBTi, CDP, GRI, PCAF, TCFD, and others strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Science, or related degree with 5 years of renewable energy procurement experience is required.

  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and due diligence skills, with proficiency in Excel.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
