Risk - Climate Scenario Analyst in New York, New York

The position is an important role supporting Independent Risk Management’s efforts to develop Climate Risk Scenario Analysis. This role will be focused on the development and implementation of scenario analysis and stress testing capabilities to assess the potential impact of Physical Risk and Transition Risk across portfolios. Working in close partnership withrisk analytics teams, the broader Risk organization, business lines and other functions, the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation, delivery and coordination of risk best practice in this critical area.

Job Background/context:

Climate risk has recently emerged as a top priority risk for the banking sector. A new team has been established within Independent Risk Management charged with building out second line Climate Risk management capabilities, in terms of risk identification, measurement and integrating these into governance and existing risk processes. This role will support required enhancements to existing risk management capabilities in line with emerging regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

▪ Support initiatives to build out Climate Risk scenario analysis / stress testing capabilities covering Physical and Transition Risks including work on the development and application of climate stress testing models

▪ Support the assessment of emerging Climate Risk scenarios (e.g. NGFS, IEA), climate stress testing industry practices, industry transition plans and emissions data and supervisory expectations and assist in developing in-house stress testing capabilities that incorporates this information

▪ Coordinate across key stakeholders in enterprise risk, Risk ID, risk data and reporting, modelling groups, and governance teams to develop and manage end to end stress testing processes

▪ Collaborate with local teams to support the delivery of both internal and supervisory climate risk scenario analysis and stress testing across the organisation (e.g. Europe / US / UK / Asia)

▪ Contribute to the broader Climate Risk team in building out best-in-class second line climate risk management capabilities

Knowledge/Experience:

▪ Experience of Climate stress testing to meet regulatory requirements or work on development of climate forecasting capabilities would be advantageous.

▪ Credit/market risk, stress testing, or model framework experience within a financial services setting

▪ Good familiarity with the increasing regulatory expectations facing banks with respect to climate risk

▪ Strong knowledge of financial products

▪ Experience in strategic planning and project management

▪ Experience in dealing with and delivery of regulatory projects

▪ Experience in dealing with and managing external consultants

▪ Experience in dealing with change projects and/or building / delivering new capabilities

▪ A proven track record of liaising across diverse stakeholder groups; including senior managers, and large firm networks

Qualifications:

▪ Academic degree in Economics, Statistics, or Finance or analytical field and 5-8 years relevant equivalent working experience in financial services industry

Skills:

▪ Highly numerate, with strong quantitative and spreadsheet skills, with the ability to analyse, work with, interpret and present large amount of data in a readily digestible format using the latest charting/diagrammatic presentation techniques.

▪ Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively in a high-volume and complex environment with changing priorities with a practical solutions-driven approach

▪ Excellent written and oral communications skills, with a commanding and convincing delivery and the ability to synthesize complex concepts, translate into ‘user friendly’ language and effectively present in long-form documents or slide format

▪ Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to understand drivers and overcome barriers.

▪ Will be conversant in the organisational skills demanded in order to operate in a large global company

▪ Strong quantitative skills, particularly around statistics and strong attention to detail

▪ Self-starter, ability to quickly assimilate and analyse large amounts of information across a variety of topics

▪ Proven ability to partner and collaborate across an organisation, excellent influencing, facilitation, and partnering skills, with the ability to build relationships, partner effectively and build a strong internal network across functions and throughout the global Risk network together with the matrix at all levels of the organisation

▪ Strong tenacity and resilient under pressure and self-motivated in a fast paced and demanding environment

▪ Highly engaged, strong attention to detail, and outcome oriented

▪ The role demands a strong work ethic, willingness to ‘roll up sleeves’, with a tireless work ethic

▪ Strong analytical problem solving and the person should have a high level of integrity to deal with highly confidential data
