The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Staff Associate I in New York, New York

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified data scientistist with expertise in programming languages including C, Python, and R. Knowledge of of single cell RNAseq analysis is important. A background in mathematics and/or biology is preferred. Previous experiences in bioinformatics including aligning Fastq files to reference genome(s), performing single nucleus RNAseq analysis, and expertise in cancer biology are preferred.

Job Function:

  • Oversee progress on ongoing research projects.
  • Perform all necessary steps for RNAseq analysis
  • Perform all necessary steps for single nucleus RNAseq analysis and spatial transcriptomics
  • Develop new methods for analysis of spatial transcriptomics
  • Adapt and develop approaches for long read sequencing analysis
  • Write papers, progress reports, and present at conferences
  • Train junior personell in coding and data analysis
  • Perform image analysis and wetlab experiments as needed

Lab Mission/Purpose:

The mission of the Al-Dalahmah laboratory is to define the states of glial pathology in multiple neurologic diseases including neurodegeneration and glioblastoma. We strive to employ this knowledge to develop novel therapeutic strategies to block progression of disease.


Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in mathematics and biology
  • Master degree in computer science and/or bioinformatics
