Data-Mail Senior Staff Accountant in Newington, Connecticut

Location: Newington, CT (this is an onsite role, not hybrid, not remote)

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

SUMMARY

The senior staff accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. The staff accountant will be assigned one large legal company and several smaller companies that they will be required to perform the month end close, financial reporting, and variance analysis. They are responsible for all accounting and tax functions for all assigned business unit(s) and responsible for daily cash balancing and special projects, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform accounting and tax functions for all assigned companies as follows:

  • Prepare monthly accrual basis financial statements, including all journal entries and related schedules

  • Control depreciation records using Asset Keeper software

  • Perform weekly, quarterly and annual payroll and payroll tax processing

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation

  • Maintain binders for equipment leases and maintenance contracts

  • Maintain daily cash balance reporting and requisitions

  • Prepare outside service and inter-company analyses

  • Assist in preparation of annual 1065 tax return

  • Prepare work papers for annual review

  • Comply with company rules and regulations.

  • Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.

  • Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Accounting degree or equivalent

  • Knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles

  • Knowledge of auditing practices and principles

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations

  • Knowledge and experience of related computer applications

  • A minimum of 3 years related experience preferably in a manufacturing setting

  • Cost accounting experience a plus
