The Role
This position is for an engineering manager with the SSN(X) Propulsion Plant Fluid Systems Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, assigning and checking work, training and developing engineers, evaluating performance of direct reports, and maintaining a professional atmosphere within the engineering section. The ability to simultaneously review, track, guide, and approve multiple tasks is critical to position success. The candidate will be able to develop, establish, and manage a long-term plan to drive sustainment concepts into the SSN(X) fluid system design. The candidate will have the opportunity to guide the future of the SSN(X) program by supporting development of processes and procedures.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
The SSN(X) Fluid Systems Team is looking for a strong leader to support the development of the next generation fast attack submarine, SSN(X). Preferred qualifications are as follows:
Specific knowledge of the design of SSN 688 Class, SEAWOLF, and VCS submarines and an understanding of how the technical requirements vary between the different classes of ships. Additional knowledge of CVN68 and CVN78 Class design is a plus.
Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) operational and maintenance experience for both submarines and aircraft carriers.
Programmatic and engineering experience in new design that includes establishing and managing key performance parameters that cross functional boundaries (engineering, program office, construction, and logistics)
Experience working with Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) and General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB) is desired.
Demonstrated abilities including organizing, leading, and presenting complex/advanced projects and/or programs to shipyard executives, EB colleagues, NNL, and U.S. Navy customers.
