As a Senior Engineer - Carbon Capture Systems, you will contribute and lead development of advanced direct air & post combustion carbon capture. You will engage with and support the GE Power and GE Renewable Energy businesses as well as several United States government customers and partners. You will also be encouraged to explore new applications which are tied with other GE Industrial businesses or revolutionary ideas which have not found a home in a GE business yet.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The Carbon Capture Technology Breakout team performs advanced, leading-edge research in the areas of carbon capture areas. We focus on technology that enables both direct air and post combustion carbon capture. Our major customers include GE Power, GE Renewable Energy, US Dept. of Energy, and the US Dept. of Defense.

  • Opportunities will exist to lead technology development in systems that will ultimately lead to a carbon capture product. The project collaborations are required within the internal organization by actively working on system related aspects with the solvent & sorbent materials, contactors, and sorbent development teams.

As a Senior Engineer - Carbon Capture Systems, you will:

  • Work independently as well as guide development of new technologies and capabilities that enables both direct air and post combustion carbon capture and needs to be translated into existing and new products.

  • Determine system level performance requirements and develop fundamental system knowledge through fluid dynamic and mass transfer experimentation and modeling, system engineering cost analyses and sorption and separations mechanisms. Iteratively improve performance for various applications, such as carbon capture (direct air and post-combustion) and atmospheric water extraction.

  • Apply systems engineering principles, computational modeling tools, and experimental skills to develop process and system design insight. Use experimental data to understand sorption mechanisms and define the kinetic and thermodynamic factors impacting various unit operations.

  • Identify novel material system structures and system configurations with improved performance (flux, selectivity, etc.), greater reliability, and lower energy requirements, especially under relevant environmental conditions (pressure, temperature, flow).

  • Shaping of new proposal areas with GE businesses as well as multiple government agencies, universities and national laboratories. Contribute and lead proposal teams as Principal Investigators or as a team member.

  • Participate in the development of direct air and post combustion carbon capture systems.

  • Guide development of system requirements into projects related to direct air and post combustion carbon capture.

  • Lead multi-disciplinary project teams and provide system architecture expertise in areas of direct air and post combustion carbon capture

  • Perform analytical work to define, meet or exceed customer entitlements.

  • Participate in the development and identification of new technology, product and service opportunities.

  • Effectively communicate results by preparing written reports and making presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and value obtained.

  • Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends.

  • Demonstrate awareness of competing and disruptive technologies.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Doctorate Degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience in carbon capture systems or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in carbon capture systems.

  • Demonstrated carbon capture system engineering experience at either post combustion or direct air capture

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The salary range for this position is $111,200-$185,400 US dollars annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
