As the Comptroller, you will play a key role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance. Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the overall financial operations of the tribal government organization, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.

  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and systems to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and transparency in financial operations.

  • Prepare and present financial reports, statements, and forecasts to the tribal leadership, executive team, and stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and tribal policies.

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and strategic budgets.

  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, identify areas of concern, and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Manage cash flow, investments, and debt to optimize financial resources and mitigate risk.

  • Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other professionals to ensure timely completion of audits and compliance with tax obligations.

  • Supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

  • Stay informed about industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes related to tribal finance and accounting.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices, including fund accounting.

  • Proven experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and financial reporting.

  • Familiarity with tribal financial management systems, regulations, and compliance requirements is highly desirable.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Proficiency in financial software systems and MS Office Suite.
