The Legal Department provides legal advice and counsel on a variety of employment law matters including Benefits, Compensation, HR Compliance, Immigration and Employee Relations for our domestic and international workforce.

Your Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Managed Hotel Division on day-to-day employment needs including wage and hour issues, handbook policy updates and enforcement, employee relations matters, HR compliance (including ADA matters, leaves of absence, etc.), and investigations.

  • Partner with the corporate HR team on federal and state employment regulations (FLSA, FMLA, ADA), immigration matters, manage international employment law issues impacting our regional offices (with the assistance of local counsel), review and negotiate commercial agreements for HR related services and support other day-to-day employment needs.

  • Provide advice and counsel on benefits and compensation, including plans, incentives, stock awards and manage outside counsel as needed.

  • Assist the VP & Assistant General Counsel with employee relations and other employment law matters.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Law Degree and Bar Membership required.

  • At least 8 years’ relevant substantive experience with and specific knowledge in employment law, benefits, immigration, ERISA; at least 6+ years practicing in a law firm or medium/large in-house legal department.

  • Must have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to consistently prioritize, coordinate and satisfy numerous competing demands to effectively achieve business outcomes.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and drafting skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and legal judgment.

  • Willingness and desire to learn and understand the Company’s various business departments and operations to build effective “business partnerships” with internal clients and drive results.

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the VP & Assistant General Counsel. You will collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As our Employment Counsel, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Right now, our associates in corporate headquarters are working in a hybrid environment: 4 days per week in the office and virtual from your home office the remaining day. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.
